BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.
DIRECTIONS:
STITCH EXPLANATIONS:M1 (make 1) An increase worked by lifting the horizontal strand lying between needles and placing it onto the left needle. Knit this new stitch through the back loop - 1 st increased.
skp Slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1, pass slip stitch over knit stitch - 1 st decreased.
PATTERN STITCHES:
K1, p1 Rib (worked over an even number of sts)
Row 1: *K1, p1; rep from * to end of row.
Row 2: K the knit sts and p the purl sts.
Rep Row 2 for K1, p1 Rib.

Row 2: K the knit sts and p the purl sts.
Rep Row 2 for K1, p1 Rib.
TECHNIQUE EXPLANATION:
3-Needle Bind Off
With RS together, hold in one hand 2 needles with equal number of sts on each. With 3rd needle, knit tog 1 st from each needle, *knit tog 1 st from each needle, pass first st worked over 2nd to bind off; rep from * across. Cut yarn and pull through last st to secure.
NOTES:
Pullover is worked in 4 pieces: Back, Front, and 2 Sleeves.
Each piece is worked back and forth in rows from lower edge upwards.
Stitches are picked up around the neck edge for the hood.
The hood is worked back and forth in rows on a circular needle.
If desired, Back, Front and 2 Sleeves can also be worked on circular needles as if working with straight needles.
When you see 'work even' in the instructions, this means to continue on in the pattern st you have established without changing the st count by increasing, decreasing, or binding off.
BACK:
With smaller straight needles, cast on 75 (83, 91, 99, 107) sts.
Row 1 (RS): P2, *k1, p1; rep from * to last st, p1.
Row 2: K the knit sts and p the purl sts.
Rep Row 2 until piece measures about 1 1/2" (4 cm) from beg, end with a WS row as the last row you work.
Change to larger straight needles.
Next Row (RS): P2, k1, p1 (for ribbed edge of side slit), k to last 4 sts, p1, k1, p2 (for ribbed edge of side slit).
Next Row: K2, p1, k1, p to last 4 sts, k1, p1, k2.
Rep last 2 rows until piece measures about 5" (12.5 cm) from beg.
Work in St st (k on RS, p on WS) until piece measures about 16 1/2" (42 cm) from beg, end with a WS row as the last row you work.
