DIRECTIONS:
- A fun technique to use when art journaling is creating multiple textural layers on your pages. Begin a base layer by using large, simply designed stamps on your background paper. You can stamp one design multiple times and let the stamp run off the edges of your paper.
- To give more dimension to your stamped image, try layering different colors of ink onto the stamp before pressing it onto the paper.
- You can also use stamps to create your own embellishments. Try stamping phrases onto pieces of cardstock or patterned paper, cutting them out and placing them on your page for headings or decoration. Use dimensional glue dots for added interest on the page.
- Letter stamps are a great way to add variety to a page that is full of handwriting. Bring emphasis to words that are impactful by using letter stamps to create the words, rather than just hand writing them. Using letter stamps for headings can be a great way to break up the page, adding interest and color.
- Vellum paper is another great way to add interest to a journal page. You can write thoughts onto a piece of vellum, trim it out, and layer it over a photograph or patterned paper. Use a sewing machine to stitch them in place for extra texture.
- If you made a mistake on any of your pages, simply rewrite your words or recreate your design onto a blank piece of paper and adhere it over the part you’d like to cover up. Add scraps of paper or stamped designs to the edges of these paper additions.
JOANN HACKS:
- If you use a sewing machine to connect vellum or other paper elements together, be sure to keep one needle dedicated to paper so it does not become too dull for sewing on cloth.
