SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Mudcloth
  • Bias tape
  • Straight pins
  • Sewing clips
  • Sewing machine
  • Thread
  • Iron
  • Velcro - 1/2" wide

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Cut out the two pattern pieces.

  2. Use the large bib pattern to cut out two pieces of mudcloth - fold the mudcloth so that you will cut two pieces that line up, wrong songs together, perfectly.

  3. Use the small bib pattern piece to cut one piece of mudcloth on the fold - this will be the food-catching pocket that will go on the bottom of the bib.

  4. Line up the large bib pieces wrong sides together and baste all around the entire bib.

  5. Set iron to low “synthetics" setting, and gently iron the folded edge of the pocket to a crisp crease.

  6. Line up the pocket onto the bottom of the bib and secure with sewing clips at the tops of either side of the pocket.

  7. In order to get the pocket to pop out from the bib, you will need to make creases on either side of both bottom corners - see the markings on the pattern for reference. These creases will be on the large bib piece only. Secure with sewing clip after making each crease. In addition, you will need to make two creases on the center bottom of the pocket - these creases will be on the pocket only and will be about 3 inches in from either side. See the markings on the pattern for reference. Secure these creases with sewing clips as well.

  8. Baste around the pocket.

  9. Wrap the Bias Tape all around the outside of the bib, securing with sewing clips as you go. Sew bias tape onto edge of bib.

  10. Cut velcro into a 1/2"x 1/2" square (rough side) and a 1/2"x 2" rectangle (soft side).

  11. Place the 1/2"x 2" soft rectangle on the arm of the left side of the bib (left as in how you're looking at it, not the side that will be on the wearer's left.) It should be on the surface of the bib (same side as the pocket) and it should be centered on the end of the bib's left arm. See markings on pattern for reference.

  12. Sew all the way around the rectangle.

  13. Place the 1/2"x 1/2" rough square on the right arm of the bib. It should be on the underside of the bib (the side without the pocket), and it should be centered on the end of the bib's right arm. See markings on pattern for reference.

  14. Sew all the way around the square.
