SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Swaddle Fabric, 2yds
  • Basic Sewing Supplies

DIRECTIONS:

NOTE: This Baby Doll Wearing Wrap has two parts: two fabric loops crossed into an X that a child can pull over their head and place a doll inside; and a long fabric strip to be tied around the waist. The wrap can be worn with or without the additional tie. The X portion of the wrap has an adjustable loop in back to keep the wrap shaped around the shoulders.
  1. Cut Swaddle Fabric into 4 strips, 17"x 64", 11"x 39" (two), and 4"x 6".
  2. Take the two 11"x 39" strips and fold one in half so that it measures 5 1/2"x 39". Sew down the 39" edge with a 1/2" seam allowance.
  3. Turn right side out and shift the seam to the center. Match short ends and sew the loop together. Repeat for the second 11"x 39" piece.
  4. Place one loop inside of the other loop and shift them so that they make an X. Pin together the resulting diamond shape where the two pieces meet, then sew the diamond.
  5. Make an adjustable loop for the back of the carrier by folding the 4"x 6" piece in half, matching long sides so that the resulting dimension is 2"x 6". Sew down the long edge and flip right side out.
  6. Wrap the loop around the two fabric straps in the back. You will need to bunch the fabric straps together to fit the loop around them. Sew the short ends of the loop together and flip the loop around, hiding the seam.
  7. Now all that's left is the long fabric tie. Fold the 17"x 64" in half so that it is 8 1/2"x 64. Sew down the long 64" edge. Shift the seam so that it is centered, and then sew one of the short ends. Trim the corners off the short end seam allowance, and turn the strap right side out. Push out the corners on the sewn short end. Fold the edges of the remaining raw edge in 1/2" to the interior of the strap. Pin and topstitch in place.

JOANN HACKS:

  • Sew the loop together with a french seam. Match the short edges with wrong sides together and sew with a 1/4" seam allowance. Flip the loop over and match the short edges with right sides together. Sew with a 1/2" seam allowance. Topstitch the seam flat and flip right side out.
