Baby Play Book

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

• 100% cotton fabric
• Cotton batting
• Polyfil stuffing
• Basic sewing supplies
• Pattern

DIRECTIONS:

1. To make a 10"x 8" book


2. Cut 2 pieces of cotton fabric and batting for front and back cover 18"Wx 11"L. Baste or pin wrong side of fabric to batting. Create 1 1/2" bias tape for outer edge of book. Lay front and back pieces wrong sides together and pin bias tape to outer edge. Sew around outer edge, turn bias tape to inside and sew to finish edge.


3. Cut 2 pieces of cotton fabric for batting for inside pages 18"Wx 11"L. Base or pin wrong side of fabric to batting on each page. Create 1 1/2" bias tape for outer edge of pages.


4. Create rainbow by cutting 3 arched pieces of coordinating fabric approximately 1" to 2" wide and large enough to fit page. Machine applique the rainbow to the right side of one page.


5. Cut 2 pieces of sun ray pattern from fabric. Sew right sides together leaving an opening to turn and turn right side out. Topstitch close to edge around outer edges of sun ray. Cut 2 circles for center of sun of fabric and one circle of batting. Baste onto sun ray leaving an opening to place polyfil stuffing to give dimension to sun. Applique by sewing the circle to the middle of the sun ray (leaving the rays free), on left side of page next to rainbow, leaving enough space to create center seam.


6. Cut 2 pieces of fabric for cloud and 1 piece of batting. Baste wrong sides together with batting in between, leaving an area to add polyfil for dimension. Create 4 pieces of bias tape by cutting 1 1/2" piece of fabric for each of the "streamers" hanging from the cloud. Pin cloud to left side of page, laying the streamers under the cloud to attach. Applique around the cloud.


7. Cut 2 pieces of moon pattern from fabric and 1 piece of batting. Baste wrong sides of moon together with batting in between leaving a space to add polyfil stuffing for dimension. Cut 3 stars of varying sizes to attach to bias strip. Pin right sides of stars together and sew around edges leaving an opening to stuff with polyfil, hand stitch closed. Make 1 piece of bias to attach the 3 stars to top of the moon. Pin moon to right side of page opposite the cloud. Applique around the moon attaching bias strip to top of moon to hang stars. Zigzag stitch the stars to bias tape.


8. Lay 2 inside pages wrong sides together, pin and baste. Pin bias tape to outer edge. Sew around outer edge, turn bias tape to inside and sew to finish edge.


9. Lay inside page on top of outer cover and sew down center of page to attach cover to page.


10. Make 2 15" bias tape ties and attach at center edge of front and back cover to tie book.
