SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- Rit Back to Black Kit
- Faded Denim Jacket
- Container or Stainless Steel Sink for Dyeing
- Measuring Cup
- Salt
- Dish Soap
- Gloves
- Plastic Table Cover
- Paper Towels
DIRECTIONS:
- Cover work area with plastic table cover and have paper towels handy to protect against any possible spills. Gather supplies.
- Before dyeing, remove any visible stains and pre-wash in warm soap water without any fabric softener. This helps to remove any finishes that may interfere with dye absorption. Leave jacket damp.
- Fill container or sink with 3 gallons of hot water (140F). There needs to be enough water for the jean jacket to move freely. If tap water is not hot enough, heat water on stove and add to dyebath.
- Shake Jet Black All-Purpose and add half into dyebath, stir well.
- Add 1 cup of salt and 1 tsp of dish soap to promote level dyeing.
- Submerge jacket into dyebath wearing gloves and stir continuously for roughly 30 minutes minutes as this helps to ensure an even color with no splotches.
- To enhance color and reduce bleeding, use Rit ColorStay Dye Fixative immediately after dyeing and before washing.
- Rinse under cold water until water begins to run clear.
- Hand wash in mild detergent and hang to dry.
