MEASUREMENTS
12"x 18" [30.5 x 45.5 cm], excluding ears.
GAUGE
5 stitches = 4" [10 cm].
DIRECTIONS:
Notes:Right side of project is facing at all times.
"Working yarn" is held behind stitches throughout work.
Loops from working yarn are always pulled through stitches from back to front of work.
Pillow Body
With MC, count 30 loops for foundation row (noting yarn end is at far right and all loops are facing upwards).
1st row: Working from left to right, pull 31st loop (from 'working yarn') up through 30th loop (last loop of foundation row) from behind to create a knit st. Pull next loop from working yarn up through next loop of foundation row. Continue in this manner to end of row. Do not turn work. 30 sts in row.
**2nd row: Working from right to left, pull next loop from working yarn up from behind through last st worked on previous row. *Pull next loop from working yarn up from behind through next st. Repeat from * across to end of row.
Do not turn.
3rd row: Working from left to right, pull next loop from working yarn up from behind through last st worked on previous row. *Pull next loop from working yarn up from behind through next st. Repeat from * across to end of row. Do not turn.**
Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows until work from beginning measures 18" [45.5 cm].
Bind off row: Working in same direction as last row, pull 2nd st through first st. Pull 3rd st through 2nd st. Pull 4th st through 3rd st. Continue in this manner to end of row. Cut last loop to create a yarn 'tail'. Tie to secure and weave in ends.
Bind off.
Pillow Assembly
Fold Pillow Body in half, aligning side edges, with right side facing out. Cut a length of MC approximately 32" [81.5 cm] long. Cut thread at base of all loops to create a smooth yarn for seaming. Thread yarn onto tapestry needle. Sew 2 sides of Pillow closed. Insert pillow form. Sew remaining side closed.
Ears (make 2)
With A, count 8 loops for foundation row (noting yarn end is at far right and all loops are facing upwards).
1st row: Working from left to right, pull 9th loop (from 'working yarn') up through 8th loop (last loop of foundation row) from behind to create a knit st. Pull next loop from working yarn up through next loop of foundation row. Continue in this manner to end of row. Do not turn work. 8 sts in row. Rep from ** to ** as given for Pillow Body until work from beginning measures 6" [15 cm].
Bind off row: As Bind off row of Pillow Body.
Proceed with Ear Assembly as follows (See diagram on page 4):
Cut a length of A approximately 32" [81.5 cm] long. Cut thread at base of all loops to create a smooth yarn for seaming. Thread yarn onto tapestry needle.
With point of Ear facing up and wrong side facing you, fold two top edges (A) to meet in the middle.
Using smooth yarn, sew edges (A) together to form seam.
Fold Ear in half along seam so top edges (B) meet.
Using smooth yarn, sew edges (B) together.
Using smooth yarn, sew bottom edge (C) of Ear to top of Pillow.
Muzzle
With A, count 9 loops for foundation row (noting yarn end is at far right and all loops are facing upwards).
1st row: Working from left to right, pull 10th loop (from 'working yarn') up through 9th loop (last loop of foundation row) from behind to create a knit st. Pull next loop from working yarn up through next loop of foundation row. Continue in this manner to end of row. Do not turn work. 9 sts in row. Rep from ** to ** as given for Pillow Body until work from beginning measures 13" [33 cm].
Bind off row: As Bind off row of Pillow Body.
Proceed with Muzzle Assembly as follows (See diagram on page 4):
With top of Muzzle facing up and wrong side facing you, fold top two corners (A) to meet in the middle 2" [5 cm] below top edge.
Using sewing thread, sew corners (A) together and attach to wrong side of Muzzle (see diagram).
Flip Muzzle over so right side is facing you. Using sewing thread, sew Muzzle to front of Pillow as shown in photo.
FINISHING
Loopy Hair
Cut 2 strands of A in each of 9" [23 cm], 10" [25.5 cm], 11" [28 cm], 12" [30.5 cm] lengths. Align longest strands of A across front top of Pillow making sure all loops are facing up. Pin in place with safety pins. Align second longest strands of A below first strand centered across Pillow, making sure all loops are facing up. Pin in place with safety pins. Continue in this manner, adding remaining strands to the center front of the Pillow, evenly spaced between top of Pillow and top of Muzzle (see diagram on page 5). Using sewing thread, sew strands in place. Remove safety pins.
Eyes (make 2, 1 left and 1 right): Cut Background and Pupil out of black felt. Cut White and Shine out of white felt. Using hot glue gun, glue White onto Background, then glue Pupil onto White, then glue Shine onto Pupil. Glue Eyes onto front of Pillow as shown in diagram.
Nose and Mouth: Cut Nose, and Mouth pieces out of black felt. Using hot glue gun, glue to front of Pillow as shown in diagram on page 5.
Note: Embellish your Festive Llama Pillow with colorful tassels, pompoms, a
bridle and more. Use the photo as inspiration and have fun making this project your own!
Bridle: Cut strands of Bernat® Blanket™ yarn and secure in place on face of Pillow with safety pins to form Bridle (as shown in photo). Using sewing thread, sew around strand to secure in place. Remove safety pins.
Tassels: Wrap Bernat® Blanket™ yarn around 3" [7.5 cm] piece of cardboard 12 times. Tie securely at one end. Cut across other end. Wrap yarn 3 times around tassel 1" [2.5 cm] from tied end and fasten securely. Sew Tassels securely to Pillow (as shown in photo).
Note: Easily change the length of your tassels by adjusting the width of your cardboard piece.
Pompoms: Wind Bernat® Blanket™ yarn around 3 fingers approx 30 times. Remove from fingers and tie tightly in center. Cut loops at both ends and trim to smooth round shape. Sew Pompoms securely to Pillow (as shown in photo).
Note: Easily change the size of your pompom by changing the number of fingers you wrap your yarn around.
