Size U.S. 10½ [6.5 mm] circular knitting needle 16" [40.5 cm] long. Set of 4 size U.S. 10½ [6.5 mm] double-pointed knitting needles or or size needed to obtain gauge. Small quantity of scrap bulky weight waste yarn for cast on. Stitch marker.
MEASUREMENTS
Approx 26" [66 cm] circumference x 22" [56 cm] long.
To fit baby 6-12 months.
GAUGE
9 sts and 14 rows = 4" [10 cm] in stocking st.
DIRECTIONS
With circular knitting needle and waste yarn, provisionally cast on 60 sts.
With working yarn, knit 1 row. Join to work in rnd, placing marker on first st.
Knit in rnds until work measures 5" [12.5 cm].
Next rnd: Remove waste yarn from provisional cast on to expose 1 live st. With cast on edge behind needle, knit this st tog with first st on left needle. *Remove waste yarn fromprovisional cast on to expose1 live st. Knit this st tog withnext st on left needle. Rep from*around.
Proceed as follows:
1st to 4th rnds: Knit.
5th to 10th rnds: Purl.
Rep these 10 rnds until work from beg measures approx 20" [51 cm], ending on a 10th rnd.
Beg decreases:
1st rnd: *K8. K2tog. Rep from *around. 54 sts.
2nd and alt rnds: Knit.
3rd rnd: *K7. K2tog. Rep from*around. 48 sts.
5th rnd: *K6. K2tog. Rep from*around. 42 sts.
7th rnd: *K5. K2tog. Rep from *around. 36 sts. Switch to set ofdouble-pointed needles.
9th rnd: *K4. K2tog. Rep from*around. 30 sts.
11th rnd: *K3. K2tog. Rep from*around. 24 sts.
