  • Size U.S. 6 (4 mm) circular knitting needle 32" [80 cm] long or size needed to obtain gauge. Stitch markers. Tapestry needle.

 

MEASUREMENTS

Approx 19" [48 cm] wide x 16" [40.5 cm] high, excluding straps

 

GAUGE

21 sts and 28 rows = 4" [10 cm] in stocking st.

 

Directions

 

TOTE BASE Cast on 29  sts. Work back and forth across needle in rows as follows: Purl 2 rows. 1st row: (RS). K1. *K1. Sl1Pyf. Rep from * to last 2 sts. K2. 2nd row: Purl. 3rd row: *K1. Sl1Pyf. Rep from * to last st. K1. 4th row: Purl. Rep last 4 rows of Linen St Pat for 14" [35 cm], ending on a RS row. Purl 2 rows. Cast off.

 

TOTE BODY With circular needle, cast on 180 sts. Join in rnd, being careful not to twist sts, and place marker for beg of rnd. 1st and 2nd rnds: Knit. 3rd and 4th rnds: *P4. Sl1Pyb. Rep from * around. Rep last 4 rnds for Texture Pat until Tote Body measures 14"  [35  cm] from beg. Next rnd: Purl. Next rnd: Knit. Rep last 2 rnds twice more. Next rnd: Purl. Cast off.

 

STRAPS (make 2) Cast on 13 sts. Work back and forth across needle in rows as follows: 1st row: (RS). Sl2Pyb. K1. *K1. Sl1Pyf. Rep from * to last 2 sts. K2. 2nd row: Sl2Pyf. Purl to end of row. 3rd row: Sl2Pyb. *K1. Sl1Pyf. Rep from * to last 3 sts. P3. 4th row: Sl2Pyf. Purl to end of row. Rep last 4 rows until Strap measures 24" [61 cm], ending on a WS row. Cast off.

 

FINISHING Pin Tote Base evenly around cast on edge of Tote Body and sew tog. Fold Bag flat. Sew Straps to cast o‑ edge of Tote Body approx 2" [5 cm] from each side as shown in photo.
