Father’s Day is just around the corner and it’s the perfect time to make Dad a personalized gift – like this Father’s Day Glass Etched Mugs!
Hi all, it’s Bev from Flamingo Toes here today with this fun tutorial that is perfect for all the Dads in your life! Etched glass mugs are a great way to give Dad a gift that is just what he wants because you can create any design on your mugs! These are so easy and fun to do.
I chose a few fun phrases for my mugs but you could do almost anything such as Dad’s name, his favorite sports team, even one of his favorite phrases. They are super easy to make as well – even if you’ve never done etching before!
Father’s Day Glass Etched Mugs Tutorial
● Glass Mugs *you can find these in most retail box stores or even the dollar store
● Glass Etching Cream
● Transfer Tape
● Cricut or another cutting machine
● Disposable gloves, paper towels
Tip: You’ll want to make sure you are applying the cream near the sink – you will want to be able to rinse it off and have some paper towels handy for easy cleanup. Make sure you wear disposable gloves as well – you don’t want to get that etching cream on your skin.
These glass mugs are super easy to find and you can get them in all shapes and sizes. I chose these large mugs because we love to drink those retro sodas and these big glass mugs are perfect for them!
Using the software that comes with the cutting machine, create designs you want to etch on your mugs. I chose simple words that would be easy to read and sized them to fit on the front of the mugs.
Cut the phrases out of the vinyl. Make sure you leave enough space on the vinyl around the words since we’re making stencils – you don’t want any etching cream to get outside of the vinyl.
Using the transfer tape, apply the vinyl to the front of the mug. Make sure it’s all completely sealed on the mug; you don’t want any cream to get under the design.
Apply the etching cream according to the package instructions. Make sure your design is completely covered and there is a very thick layer of the cream on the design. The more cream you have on there, the more even the etching will be. Leave your cream in place for 5 minutes.
Rinse off the cream according to the instructions and dry the mug. Remove the vinyl stencil and admire your new mug!
Repeat for all the mugs you’re making! Etching is so fun and easy that you’ll want to do more projects right away. It’s such a great way to make a personalized gift!
