Big Twist Yarns Natural Blend (80% Acrylic/20% Wool; 98 yds). Shown in colors: (Solid) 1 skein Natural Blend Light Gray and (Striped) 1 skein each in: Winter White, and Aged Brass, or in: Denim, and Peony Pink
Size U.S. 13 knitting needles
Cable needle
Large eyed yarn needle



20” x 4 1/2” — stretches to fit up to 22” head


2 sts per inch in Seed Rib


BO = bind off

CO = cast on

k = knit

LH = left hand

p = purl

st(s) = stitch(es)

WS = wrong side



Solid Version:

CO 9 sts.

Foundation Row (WS): K2, p1, k3, p1, k2.

Row 1: P1, *k3, p1; rep from * to end.

Row 2: K2, p1, k3, p1, k2.

Repeat Rows 1-2 until piece measures 8 1/2” (or half the desired length, minus 1 1/2”), ending with a WS row.

Next Row: Slip first 4 sts onto cable needle; let sts fall forward; p1, k3, p1 from LH needle; k3, p1 from the cable needle.

Next Row: Repeat Row 2.

Repeat Rows 1-2 until piece measures 20”, or desired length.

BO in pattern stitch, leaving long tail for seaming.


Using yarn needle and tail, sew together opposite ends of piece.

Striped version:

Work same as for Solid version, but change colors either every 2 or 4 rows, while carrying unused color up the side.
