  • Bernat Blanket Extra Thick Yarn Skein, Dark Gray (3)
  • Bernat Blanket Extra Thick Yarn Skein, Orchid
  • Jumbo Yarn needle

  • MEASUREMENTS: Approximately 52" x 59"

  • GAUGE: 2.25 sts and 3.25 rows = 4"

DIRECTIONS:

Dark Gray is Contrast A. Orchid is Contrast B.
Note: When breaking yarn, leave tail approx 6" [15 cm] long to join next color or weave in.
Work Blanket on a large flat surface (table or bed).
All rows are worked from right side.

BLANKET
With A, make a slip knot, being sure to keep the loop loose enough to fit fingers through.

FOUNDATION ROW
Using pointer finger and thumb, pull working yarn up through loop to create a chain stitch. Continue in this manner, making sure to keep the loops loose, until you have 30 chains.

1st row: (Purl setup row). Lay chain flat, with 'smooth' side facing up, and working yarn at right end of chain. Working from right to left, with working yarn held at front of work, *pull loop approx 2" [5 cm] long from working yarn up from through top of second chain from front to back. (Skipped first chain already has 'live' loop which counts as first stitch of row). Repeat from * to end of chain. Do not turn work.
2nd row: Purl row: Working from left to right, and with working yarn held at front of work, pull loop approx 2" [5 cm] long from working yarn up through first stitch from front to back to create a purl stitch. *Pull loop approx 2" [5 cm] long from working yarn up through next stitch from front to back. Repeat from * to end of row. Do not turn work.
3rd row: Knit row with purled border: Working from right to left, purl in first 2 stitches, pulling loops approx 2" [5 cm] long. With working yarn held at back of work, pull next loop approx 2" [5 cm] long from working yarn up through first stitch from back to front to create a knit stitch. *Pull next loop approx 2" [5 cm] long from working yarn up through next stitch from back to front. Repeat from * to last 2 sts. Purl in last 2 stitches. Do not turn work.
4th row: Working from left to right, purl in first 2 stitches, pulling loops approx 2" [5 cm] long. *Knit in all next stitches to last 2 stitches, pulling loops approx 2" [5 cm] long from working yarn. Purl in last 2 stitches. Do not turn work.
Repeat 3rd and 4th rows 8 times more.
Break A, leaving a tail to weave in later.

With B, repeat 3rd and 4th rows 8 times.
Break B, leaving a tail to weave in later.
With A, repeat 3rd and 4th rows 5 times.
Next row: With A, working from right to left, purl in each st in row, pulling loops approx 2" [5 cm] long. Do not turn work.
Next row: Working from left to right, purl in each st in row, pulling loops approx 2" [5 cm] long. Do not turn work.

BIND OFF
Next row: Working from right to left, pull loop approx 2" [5 cm] long from working yarn up through first stitch from back to front. *Pull loop approx 2" [5 cm] long from working yarn up through next stitch. Pull stitch just made through previous stitch. Rep from * to end of row.
Break A, leaving a tail. Pull tail through remaining loop and pull to secure.

FINISHING
Weave in ends using jumbo yarn needle.
