¼ yard cotton fabric
Shape Flex Fusible Interfacing for headband bow
Headband (plastic)
Safety pin
Basic sewing supplies
Optional: Hot glue gun
DIRECTIONS:
Measure widest part of headband and double and add ½”
Measure the length of the headband and add 1 ½”
Cut a rectangle using the above measurements for the headband covering
With right sides together, sew long edge using ⅛” seam allowance and sew again over first stitching to reinforce seam
Turn right side out and slip over headband with seam at center back
Fold in raw edges on end and stitch closed with needle and thread
Fold in excess fabric on sides and stitch using an overcast stitch to make headband fabric tight
Cut a fabric rectangle 2” x 4” for center band, sew long edge using ¼” seam allowance, turn right side out, press and set aside
Cut a fabric rectangle 24” x 6 ½” for bow
Cut a 24” x 6 ½” rectangle from interfacing
Apply interfacing to fabric rectangle according to package directions
Fold bow fabric right sides together and create a diagonal line on both ends
Sew using ¼” seam allowance along diagonal lines and long edge to create bow leaving and opening to turn
Turn right side out and press, slipstitch opening closed
Fold ends evenly toward center forming a 7” bow with tips extending about ½”-¾” below bottom edge of bow
Lay bow down with tips on the back and create ½” pleats to create bow
Wrap center band around bow and headband and secure in place with needle and thread
JOANN HACKS:
A glue gun can be used to secure excess fabric to back of headband or to attach center band and bow to headband
