SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
  • McCall's® M7047 View D + pattern required materials
  • Casa Embellish netted sequin novelty fabric
  • Matching lining fabric
  • Sewing machine
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Scissors
  • Iron
  • Pattern weights
  • Wonder clips

DIRECTIONS:
  1. Lay your fabric out on a large table without the excess fabric falling over the edge.
  2. Use pattern weights to hold down the pattern pieces instead of pins.
  3. Mark all notches with colored chalk so they are visible.
  4. Sew dress following pattern instructions.
  5. Use the synthetic iron setting and a pressing cloth

JOANN Hacks:
  • Use a finer machine needle (like Size 9/70) when sewing special occasion fabrics.
  • Cut a scrap of your sequin fabric and put it aside. The spare sequins could be useful if you need to hand sew a few to cover any bald spots near seam lines.
  • Use clips instead of pins when using highly embellished fabric. This will prevent fabric from ripping or getting damaged.
  • Use very sharp scissors to cut through the sequins and the glitter.
  • Finish seam allowances with pinking shears, overlock machine, or zigzag stitch to prevent fraying.
  • You can also finish seam allowances with satin bias tape, so the sequin fabric is not uncomfortable on the skin.
  • To make sewing the hem easier, try to pop off some of the embellishments on the bottom 1/2" of the dress with a seam ripper.
  • Always test special occasion fabrics before ironing to ensure proper heat setting is selected.
