- Sew dress following pattern instructions.
- Use the synthetic iron setting and a pressing cloth
JOANN Hacks:
- Use a finer machine needle (like Size 9/70) when sewing special occasion fabrics.
- Cut a scrap of your sequin fabric and put it aside. The spare sequins could be useful if you need to hand sew a few to cover any bald spots near seam lines.
- Use clips instead of pins when using highly embellished fabric. This will prevent fabric from ripping or getting damaged.
- Use very sharp scissors to cut through the sequins and the glitter.
- Finish seam allowances with pinking shears, overlock machine, or zigzag stitch to prevent fraying.
- You can also finish seam allowances with satin bias tape, so the sequin fabric is not uncomfortable on the skin.
- To make sewing the hem easier, try to pop off some of the embellishments on the bottom 1/2" of the dress with a seam ripper.
- Always test special occasion fabrics before ironing to ensure proper heat setting is selected.
