SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Cotton fabric
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • 1/2" bias tape maker
  • Mask pattern

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Download the pattern by clicking “download PDF" below Print Description.
  2. Cut your pattern from your fabric.
  3. Cut pieces to create the bias tape. You'll need four pieces that are 2" wide and 19" long.
  4. Use a bias tape maker to create 1/2" double fold bias tape or do it yourself by ironing the strap in half, then folding the two sides again to meet the centerfold.
  5. Topstitch your straps using a matching thread.
  6. With right sides together, sew two mask pieces along the center seam. Repeat with the other two mask pieces.
  7. You should now have two mask pieces. pin them right sides together. Stitch using a 3/8" seam allowance along the top and bottom of the mask.
  8. With the mask still wrong sides out, pin in your straps to the corners of your mask. One strap for each corner. Align the raw edges of the straps with the raw edges of the mask. You'll have to tuck the straps in the mask.
  9. Sew the sides of the mask using a 3/8" seam allowance. Make sure to leave a 2" opening on one side to turn the mask right side out.
  10. Turn your mask right side out and press.
  11. Topstitch around the perimeter of the mask being sure to sew close the opening you left on the side.
  12. Press.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun Project! Have been making the other masks with the pleats, but wanted to try this style. Both work well, but this one does need a little fiddling to get it just the right fit since it is more of a contour style. Just saying, they will fit a variety of different sized people! I made 7 in one day and had fun choosing the material! I also used elastic instead of bias tape. Good project!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great mask, bad sizes! The pattern for the mask worked great but the sizing is way off. I cut enough youth small pieces to make masks for several 3/4-year olds. Once I made the first one and tried it on my just turned 4 year old it was waaaay to small. I'd recommend sizing up or starting with one of the larger sizes first and then checking how it fits before cutting fabric for more masks! Somewhere between the youth and the small adult size was the best fit for my 4 year old. Other than that, it was very easy to sew and didn't take long. I used elastic to fit around ears instead of the bias tape.
