SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Framed metal sign
  • Masking tape
  • X-Acto® blade
  • Mixed floral
  • Foliage Picks
  • Buffalo Check wired ribbon
  • Nail tacks, 2
  • Hammer
  • Ruler
  • Hot glue gun/glue gun sticks
  • Vinyl: grey
  • Transfer Vinyl
  • Cricut machine & computer
  • Enamel “Welcome" sign
  • Epoxy
  • Enamel paint: dark grey, medium grey, white
  • Medium flat paintbrush
  • Detail brush for touch up

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Use a ruler to mark off every 2". Use masking tape to tape off the grid. Paint every other square in every other row dark grey (use photo as reference).
  2. Once the paint is dry, place the ruler onto the grid and run the X-Acto blade down the edge of the tape grids on each side. This will score the paint at the edge so it will not pull up when you remove the tape and also leave the tape in squares so you can partially remove the tape grid leaving the tape behind to cover the white squares.
  3. Remove the tape where the white squares will be painted medium grey (use the photo as reference), leaving the white squares still covered by tape. The white squares will be in the rows above and below the rows with the dark grey staggering the darker grey. Once the tape is removed, paint those designated squares a medium grey.
  4. Once the paint is dry, score the edge where the paint meets the tape to keep the paint from peeling when removing the tape. Remove the tape.
  5. Touch up any of the edges with paint to clean them up.
  6. Cut a piece of ribbon 10" long. Fold the ribbon in half, place the ends together to create a loop and center it on the top of the frame. Using tack nails and a hammer, attach the ends of the loop to the frame 1" from the ends of the ribbon. Fold the ends back over the nail heads and secure in place with hot glue.
  7. Cut a piece of ribbon 3" long. Glue one end to the center where the nail are. Pull the rest of the ribbon down to get it out of the way, this will be secured in a later step.
  8. Arrange the florals and greenery coming out from either side where the ribbon meets the frame. Secure in place with hot glue.
  9. Pull the ribbon back up over the florals, fold the end in to create a clean edge and secure the ribbon down with hot glue. This will create a clean center loop to hide the greenery ends and tie them into the hanging loop.
  10. Using your Cricut, create a monogram letter to fit the center of the frame, the M pictured is 9" wide by 11" high.
  11. Place the monogram letter onto the board centering it on your painted grid pattern.
  12. Using epoxy, glue the enamel metal “welcome" sign on top of the vinyl letter in the center of the frame.

Craft Hack Tips and Tricks:

  • Make sure to score the edges when removing the tape so the paint doesn't peel up off the metal. Using an enamel paint will help with this as well.
