SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- 6"x9" Foam Sheets, 18
- 3 1/2" White Pom-poms
- 1" Orange Pom-poms
- 12" Chenille Stems or Craft Pipe Cleaners
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Scissors or X-Acto knife/cutting surface
- Hot Glue Gun/Glue Gun Sticks
- Optional: Masking Tape or Painter's Tape
DIRECTIONS:
To find the downloadable patterns click on the "GET PATTERNS" tab above.NOTE: This project makes six bowling bunnies, requiring a total of 18 foam sheets (three per bunny). Make more for more bowling fun. The foam sheets can be in any color(s) desired for the project.
- Use scissors to cut out the printable patterns. Then use the patterns as templates to trace and cut the foam sheets for the bunny base, curved bunny body, and ears.
- Fold each side of the bunny base. The pattern indicates this 1" area which will later be the glue area. Temporarily tape these folds and press under a book for several hours.
- If you are using 6"x9" foam sheets, the curved top of the bunny is that size, so no cutting is necessary. Simply overlay the pattern and add the cut lines for the ear tabs.
- Cut the ear shapes out of foam and add the tabs' fold marks lightly with a pencil. Glue the "inside of ear" to the larger ear. Do NOT glue BELOW the fold line yet. These will be the tabs used to adhere to the bunny body. Insert ear tabs into the curved top of the bunny. Flip bunny's body over to work from the reverse side. Separate foam tabs (similar to the prongs of a paper fastener) and glue each to the inside wall.
- Glue each side of the bunny base to the inside of the curved bunny body.
- Add pom for the bunny tail.
- Add chenille stem details by cutting two 12" chenille stems into three 4" pieces. Then add them to orange pom, and glue for little nose and whiskers.
JOANN HACKS:
- The provided designs are only suggestions. Add any additional embellishments or colors you desire.
- Tracing template shapes on the foam can leave pencil marks; if this bothers you, trace your pattern on the foam's reverse side for a cleaner look.
- It can be helpful to use a new pattern for each bunny, temporarily tacking the pattern in place using painter's tape and cutting without tracing.
- An X-Acto knife is excellent for cutting 2 mm foam, especially straight cuts if the crafter has an adult helper.

Very Cute
I just made these for Easter and they are really cute. The only change to the pattern and directions I would make is to use just 3 pipe cleaners/chenille wire that are the length of 2 of the short pieces or 2/3's the length of a pipe cleaner. They were easier to twist together and glue on. Also safer for little ones who will play the game. The ball pit style balls were a great size to go through each bunny. Would be easy for a beginner to make.
