Crafting together has mental health benefits for kids individually & benefits the parent/child relationship, as well. For a child, making a project like this one can be gratifying & build self-esteem. Working alongside their caregiver, they feel connected & appreciated, especially when they don’t feel pressured to do things exactly “right”. As they work together, they can have healthy conversations about anything – even those difficult topics that might otherwise be hard to discuss.

  • Crayola® Model Magic
  • Pony Beads in a Variety of Colors
  • Wood Beads
  • Craft Cord (Thin enough to fit through bead holes)
  • Lanyard Hook
  • Scissors

  1. Kneed Model Magic to soften and mix colors as desired.
  2. Use Crayola Model Magic to form a charm using hand-sculpting techniques, including modeling, and rolled coils. Charm should be approx. 3" in size and about a 25" thickness. Let your charm dry according to the instructions on the Crayola Model Magic package.
  3. Connect a 24" length of craft cord to the charm by wrapping, tying, or threading.
  4. According to your design and palette, add pony beads and wood beads to the craft cord.
  5. Connect a lanyard hook for hanging.

  • Mix darker Model Magic colors with ample amounts of white to create a softer palette.
  • The provided designs are only suggestions—choose your own colors and design for the clay shapes.
  • Tie little strips of additional cording or knot the cording to add space between groups of beads.
