DIRECTIONS:
Note: Keep out of reach from small children.
  1. For the Jellyfish Bodies:

  2. Use Model Magic to create bowl-shape jellyfish bodies in a variety of sizes. Poke a hole through the center of each body which will later be used for hanging them.
  3. After the Model Magic has dried for 72 hours, paint the jellyfish bodies to your desired colors.
  4. Select coordinating colors of tulle for each jellyfish body and cut out circles for each one. The circles should be approximately 2" wider than the small bodies and 3" wider than the larger bodies.
  5. To create the sheer tulle cover for each Model Magic jellyfish body, hand stitch a wide gathering stitch near the edge of a tulle circle. Place the tulle circle over top of the jellyfish body and pull the string to tighten it around the body. The gathering stitch line should be hidden inside the "bowl" of the jellyfish body. Use hot glue to hold it into place.
  6. Repeat the tulle covering process for each jellyfish body.

  7. For the Jellyfish Tentacles:

  8. Find ribbon that matches the colors of the jellyfish bodies and cut a variety of long lengths for each body. The larger bodies will need more ribbons in longer lengths.
  9. Some of your ribbon pieces can be left straight, but use a needle and thread to create gathering stitches down the middle of others to create a rippled look.
  10. Use hot glue to hold the ribbons in place inside the bowl of the jellyfish body. Avoid the middle area of the bowl where the hanging hole is.

  11. To Hang the Jellyfish:

  12. Paint both of the embroidery hoops if you wish. Use string to connect the middle hoop to the outer hoop, placing a dot of hot glue on each knot to prevent it from coming unknotted later. Make sure the hoops are level before gluing.
  13. Use a darning need to thread string into the center of the jellyfish body where your hole has already been made. Knot it on the inside of the body and glue to keep the knot from coming undone.
  14. Leave a long piece of string coming out of the top of the jellyfish and use this to tie the jellyfish into place on either the inside or outside ring of the mobile, making sure the weight of the jellyfish are balanced and the mobile will hang straight.
  15. When each jellyfish is placed properly, add a dot of hot glue to secure the knots.
  16. Last, add three strings coming up from the interior ring of the mobile which will be used to hang the mobile.

JOANN HACKS:
  • Hang the mobile from something while working so it is easier to make the mobile straight and level.
  • If you have already tied and glue the jellyfish in place but are unhappy with the placement of one, you can loop it over top of a ring of the mobile to make it hang higher.
