SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Sewing notions
  • Small trim scissors
  • Iron
  • Rotary cutter & cutting board
  • Quilters Rule, 2'
  • Small dowel or chopstick
  • Canvas, natural, 60"x 1/2 yard
  • Aleen's, Stop Fray - 4 oz.

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Cut canvas: 2 @ 7"x 41" and 1 @ 11"x 22"
  2. Fold 1/2" down one long edge of two 7"x 41" panels. Press. Place the panels flat sides together, lining up the top folded edges. Mark the location for the handle hole on one panel. The hole will be 1" down from the folded edges of panels (1 1/2" down from raw edges). Pin around rectangle. Sew along lines. Cut inside of handle 1/8" from stitching. Clip into corners as close as possible to the corners of the stitching, without cutting stitches.

  3. Place the short ends of one panel through the handle opening. Pull to the other side. Press the handle opening. Line up the top, folded edges of the panels and pin. Topstitch 1/4" around the handle opening and along the top folded edges. Zigzag stitch around the raw edges. Mark the corner lines of the bin as per pattern. Topstitch from top to bottom raw edge. Make small 1/2" clips up from the bottom edge, in line with the corner seams. This will allow the corners to flare when attaching the bottom. With RST line up the top folded edges of the short ends. Sew together with a 1/2" SA.
  4. Fold the 11"x 22" panel in half to create an 11"x 11" panel. This is the bottom of the bin. Zigzag stitch around the raw edges.

  5. Attach bottom to sides. Line up the folded edge of the bottom panel with the raw edge of the side panel opposite from the handle side. Pin in place, lining up the corners. Pin in place the opposite side. Sew 1/2" SA starting and stopping 1/2" from the ends. Repeat for other two sides. Clip corners at an angle to reduce fabric bulk.
  6. Turn RSO. Press out corners using a small dowel or chopstick.
  7. Press seams and corner topstitching.
