SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- 1/2 yd Cotton Fabric- (Of Each Color Way, If Using 2 Different Fabrics)
- 1/2 yd Cotton Batting
- Thread To Match
- Scissors or Rotary Cutter
- Pins
- Tape Measure
- Clear Grid or Ruler
- Chalk or Disappearing Ink
DIRECTIONS:
To find the downloadable patterns click on the "GET PATTERNS" tab above.- Using Casserole pattern pieces (or measurements) cut 2 in cotton fabric and 2 in cotton batting in both body and handle pattern pieces. You may want to cut batting pieces slightly smaller to eliminate some bulk in the seams.
- Mark vertical and horizontal dotted lines using chalk or disappearing ink on right of cotton fabric (2 1/2" in from outside edge)
- Place the batting pieces on wrong side of each fabric piece and pin in place around perimeter as needed.
- Stitch along marked lines on each piece (fabric with batting), stitching fabric to batting from right side of fabric. Repeat on second piece.
- Place fabric (that has been stitched to batting) with right sides together, pin in place and stitch along perimeter at 1/4", leaving 3" - 4" opening along one of the longer sides. Tack to reinforce start and stop of stitching.
- Trim corners and remove bulk around curved edges.
- Turn right side out through opening. Press seam edges flat.
- Slip stitch opening closed.
- Topstitch along perimeter 1/4"
- Handles- Place batting on wrong side of each handle and stitch along middle along length, end to end.
- Fold handles in half lengthwise and stitch closed along cut line at 1/4"- turn right side out and
- press flat.
- Topstitch top and bottom edge of handles 1/4"
- Mark diagonal lines from corner to corner on casserole carrier.
- Pin hands to carrier 1/4" down from edge of corner edges. Pin along diagonal line for easier stitching.
- Stitch along diagonal line, catching handles in stitching at corners.
- Fold carrier corner along diagonal line at corner, right sides together, and stitch corners 3/8" from original corner stitching line to point, catching handles in stitching. Tack ends for strength.
- Turn right side out.
JOANN HACKS:
- Can use one color ways of fabric or two depending on desired look.
- Use a rubber mallet with scrap fabric tied to end to hammer extra thickness for easier sewing. Hammer along proposed stitching line.
- Can be made without the handles, and the extension used as a built in potholder to hold hot casserole.
- Only use cotton in fabric and batting if wanting to use in microwave.

Review of written instructions found them to be inconsistent and unclear.
Pattern to be downloaded was inconclusive and not to scale, meaning you have to try to interpret and create your own pattern on paper without complete scale sizes.
No sizing provided for handles.
Might want to employee someone who is a better instruction writer.

No sizing given for handle pieces AND poor sewing instructions
Thought this would be awesome to make for my kids/families for Christmas this year - grabbed all the fabric and batting and got the first one started. Thought the handle piece looked EXTREMLY small . . . it is!!!!!!
If the handle is supposed to be any different in size than what the printed pattern comes out . . . it would be EXTREMLY helpful if you would tell us how much to enlarge it or at least give us the measurements as you did on the main pieces.
Now, spending hours and days trying to figure out how big I need to cut the handle pieces so I can try and finish the one I've started.
Also - some of the instructions are really not clear . . . some photos of the construction would be nice!
