Beginner Under 1 Hour
SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
  • 8.5" x 11" Printer Paper, White
  • POP!™ Sidewalk Chalk
  • 9" x 11" Glass Cake Pan or Tray/Tub (in similar size)
  • Mortar and Pestle or Plastic/Butter Knife
  • Small Glass Bowls or Paper Cups (to put powdered chalk into)
  • Paper towels
  • Cookie Cooling Racks

DIRECTIONS:
METHOD 1:
  1. For best color saturation, use mortar and pestle to grind chalk sticks into fine powder. The finer the powder, the better the color saturation.
  2. Transfer powdered chalk into small bowls using a creased piece of paper. Pour chalk from mortar into small bowls. Use a separate bowl for each color of chalk.
  3. Fill cake pan or tray with 1/2"' water. When water is still, sprinkle chalk on to surface of water using fingers. Add several or just a few colors, as desired.
  4. Quickly place paper on water surface. Hold paper on both sides, allow center to gently bow. Place sheet in water, center first, release edges. Allow paper to sit on surface for about 10 seconds. Remove from water by gently lifting opposite edges of paper. Place paper on cooling rack to dry.

METHOD 2:
  1. Using a butter knife or plastic knife, scrape the chalk directly onto the water's surface, then place paper on water surface in the same technique as above. This method will result in less saturation and coverage but is a faster process.

JOANN HACKS:
  • The first color sprinkled on the water will become the background color. Additional colors will displace the background color to create marble like patterns. Chalk will sink to the bottom of pan after a few minutes, leaving the surface clear for another print. Several prints can be made before changing the water.
