- For different size pads, measure the width and length and add 10 1/2" to each.
- Cut out a 5" square out of each corner of the fabric.
- Sew the corners.
- With the fabric right sides together match the 5" edges of a corner.
- Sew a 1/4" seam allowance.
- Repeat for three corners.
- For the fourth corner, start the seam 1 1/4" from the bottom raw edge.
- This corner will be an opening for the elastic.
- Add a zig zag stitch to the seam allowance to prevent fray.
- Prepare to make the channel for the elastic.
- Turn the raw edges back 1/4" and press.
- Turn again 3/4" and press.
- At the opening corner fold back the sides under the channel to encase the raw edges.
- At the same corner pin one end of elastic.
- Lay the elastic, without twisting, under the folded edge, as close as possible to the outer fold.
- If necessary, use fabric clips or pins to hold the elastic in place.
- An alternative is to add the elastic after the channel is sewn.
- Sew the channel.
- Sew as close as possible to the top fold of the channel without catching the elastic.
- If adding the elastic after sewing the channel, pin a safety pin to the end of elastic and feed the elastic through the channel.
- Sew the ends of the elastic together.

Beautifully easy to do
I had my expectant granddaughter send me the measurements of her changing pad.
This was so easy and turned out perfect. I even added the belt loop opening. I also cut 2 pads approxmate length of same fabric and backed it with that super wonderful Babyboutique waterproof fabric/lining. I slightly rounded the corners on them and now they can lay on top of the pad cover and protect it from accidents..just toss them in the wash and the pad cover stays clean.
This is super easy. I will do sheets next. I haven't sewn in years and consider myself at 76 to be intermediate sewer.
