SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Red felt
  • Brown felt
  • Tan flannel
  • Coordinating thread
  • Velcro strip
  • Fiber fill
  • Needle
  • Pins
  • Scissors_x000B_Chopstick
  • Sewing machine (optional)

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Print pattern pieces provided. Begin by cutting your cherry pieces from the red felt.
  2. Line up the edges of two of the cherry "slices" and whipstitch edges together. Continue to do this until all the pieces are attached, leaving a 1" opening on the last piece. Flip right side out, using a chopstick or dowel if needed.
  3. Stuff cherry with fiber fill until very firm. Close the opening with needle and thread.
  4. Cut stem pieces from the pattern provided. Line up and whipstitch around the outer edges, leaving the bottom entirely open. Stuff with fiber fill until firm. Sew the finished stem to the top of the cherry and set aside.
  5. Cut a 3"x 20" (add or subtract length depending on the size of the child's head) from tan flannel. Fold and iron 1/4" at the top of the strip. Repeat at the bottom.
  6. Fold strip in half lengthwise with right sides facing. Pin in place. Straight stitch around the top, down the edge, and stop, leaving the bottom open.
  7. Flip the strip right side out using a chopstick or dowel, and sew bottom opening closed. Iron and then add Velcro strips, making sure the rough side is facing down.
  8. Pin cherry to the top/center of the headband and stitch into place.
