SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 100% cotton fabric
  • 100% cotton coordinating fabric
  • Pattern template (download PDF)
  • Pony beads
  • Basic sewing supplies

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Download the pattern by clicking “download PDF" below.
  2. Cut four pieces of pattern out of fabric (cut 2 together, twice).
  3. To make ties:  Cut 2 strips of fabric 1" x 20". Fold fabric in half lengthwise and press. Open up and bring both edges to the center fold line and press. Fold in half to make ¼" ties. Stitch close to edge to finish ties.
  4. Match pieces right sides together, and sew the outer curve using ⅜" seam allowance. Repeat with remaining two pieces of fabric.
  5. Open pieces and press both seam allowances to the right.
  6. Topstitch the center seam to stitch down the seam allowance, about ¼" from the seam.
  7. Match front and back pieces right sides together, matching center front seams at the top and bottom.
  8. Lay one half of the mask down with the right side facing up. Pin raw ends of ties in each corner 1/2 “ down from top and up from bottom edges. Make sure that the ties do not twist. Once the ties are pinned, bundle up the loops in the center of the mask.
  9. Pin and sew around the exterior of the mask, leaving a small opening at the bottom of the mask between the center front seam and corner.
  10. Clip across corners, and clip curves taking care not to cut through the stitching.
  11. Turn mask right side out and press.
  12. Topstitch around the mask ¼' from the edge, closing the hole at the bottom in the process.
  13. Choose beads with hold large enough to pass ties through easily. Thread looped end of ties through bead to adjust ear loop.

Craft Hack Tips and Tricks:

  • Use a bobby pin or small safety pin to pull ties through bead.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Style is cute. Pattern isn’t quite right Made 4 of these. They work fine unless the wearer opens their mouth wide and then they come off the nose. This is even with trying a larger size than would be called for based on the size person you’re making them for.
