SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • At least 12"x 9" cotton fabric
  • 2 Elastic pony tail holders
  • Decorative trim
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • PDF pattern in child's size

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Download the pattern by clicking “download PDF" below Print Description on the right. Use youth small size pattern.
  2. Cut one pattern piece, on the fold, out of the cotton fabric..
  3. Fold fabric right sides together.
  4. Sew along the 9" (8") side, using 1/4" seam allowance and leaving a space 3" wide in the center to turn mask right side out.
  5. Cut 2 elastic pony tail holder in half. Insert ends of pony tail holder into the corners of the two open ends of the mask and pin into place. Sew across sides, backstitching well over the elastic, to secure the elastic in place.
  6. Turn mask right side out and press seams flat.
  7. Using pattern as a guide, fold up 3 pleats on each side, making sure the pleats are folded in the same direction. Pin into place.
  8. Top-stitch around the entire mask, securing the pleats and closing the opening.
  9. Machine stitch or hand sew decorative trim to each end of the mask over the pleats.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What is the issue ? I am looking at the pattern and the instructions. I am not understanding what the problem is that the other reviewers are complaining of. It’s all there. 5”x8” or 5” x9”. Fold mark laid right out on the pattern for you. Reading the instructions you are guided to sew all around the edges and after turning right side out and pressing you are instructed to measure and sew the pleats in. Just like the photo of the mask. The store also offers already made masks. Perhaps you want to consider that option. Just saying.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Inadequate-Doesn't completely cover the nose. Why provide a pattern that is ineffective? Misleading to crafters trying to protect their children. It doesn't cover the nose.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not a bad project. Cut on the fold is genIus. Great little project that can be duplicated for community service. I was able to use basic sewing skills and knowledge to produce a quality project. Loved it. Thanks for the pattern.
