DIRECTIONS:

To find the downloadable patterns click on the "GET PATTERNS" tab above.

  1. Print A-D templates on cardstock. Face detail template for measurements only. Cut straight edges of A-D and tape together. Cut perimeter/Foam Board edge of template. Trace RSU onto tan side of foam board. Cut foam board using a sharp x-acto knife on cutting board. Set aside.
  2. Cut template at Mirror edge line. Trace WSU onto paper back of mirror sheet. Do not remove protective cover off front of mirror sheet. Cut using a sharp x-acto knife on cutting board.
  3. Place outer ring of template (foam board edge to mirror edge) RSU on top of tan foam board matching edges. This will act as a guide for placement of mirror sheet. Light pencil lines may be drawn around the mirror edge for ears placement. However, pencil marks may not be erased without the risk of marking mirror sheet.
  4. Peel and fold back top 1/3 of mirror paper backing sheet. Gently place mirror sheet RSU into opening for ears on foam board. Pat to secure in place. Remove the template. Pull the remainder of backing off the mirror sheet. Without creasing the mirror sheet lower a section at a time onto the foam board. Pat each section to secure.
  5. Cut mirror template face outlines. Transfer reverse image of nose and mouth to craft foam paper backing. Use x-acto knife to cut. Transfer 6, 1/4" circles onto craft foam backing and cut with knife. Optional: use a 1/4" hole punch to cut 6 dots. Remove protective layer off face of mirror. Place mirror template RSU on face of mirror matching edges. Remove backing from craft foam parts and place in cutout locations on mirror. Use a pin to mark a small hole in the center of each of the whisker dots. Remove the template. Remove the backing from the craft foam dots, one at a time. Press the dots centered on the pin marks to attach.
  6. Follow manufacturer's instructions to attach Picture Hanging Strips to mirror. Place strips vertically, centered on WS of bases of ears. Place one strip horizontally centered side to side and 1" from bottom edge of chin.

JOANN HACKS:

  • Cut off excess materials before detail cutting. For even edges keep the knife blade vertical while cutting, no tipping from side to side.
  • Keep the protective sheet on the front of the mirror sheet until ready to attach craft foam facial features.
  • Dust the mirror with a feather duster or hair dryer on cool setting. Rubbing to clean may scar the surface.
  • For a symmetrical face use only one side of face template: A & C or B & D. Mark a light pencil line at center top and bottom of foam board. Line up the center vertical edge of template with the marks. Flip the template matching the same marks.
  • Foam board may be substituted with 1/4" plywood. Use a scroll saw to cut wood. Sand edges of board. Prime and paint wood. Transfer shapes and adhere mirror and craft foam parts same as above. Use Medium Command Picture Hangers to attach to wall.
  • Random curvilinear cuts of sticky back craft foam may be added to represent fur around the edge of the mirror. Experiment by drawing shapes onto the template. Cut out the final shapes from template to use as patterns after all steps in directions are completed.
