BASIC TOWEL CAPE

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 2yds terrycloth fabric (for sizes 3-8)
  • 3 pkgs 1" double fold bias tape
  • Matching & contrasting thread
  • Iron & ironing surface
  • Basic sewing supplies

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Enlarge patterns.
  2. Fold terry fabric in half lengthwise then fold down about 28"; cut fabric 22"x 27",
  3. making a 44"x 54" rectangle. (Lengthen or shorten as desired.)
  4. Mark the center front point and unfold once into 22"x 54" rectangle.
  5. Cut out neck piece; matching center front point.
  6. Cut two of hood piece and one piece 9"x 14" for pocket.
  7. With RST, sew hood back seam with a 1/2" seam.
  8. Trim one side of seam to 1/4" and clip as needed.
  9. Press seam to one side over trimmed seam and stitch 3/8" from seam; trim as needed.
  10. With RST, stitch hood to neck opening with a 1/2" seam.
  11. Trim neck side of seam to 1/4" and clip as needed.
  12. Press hood seam down to cover neck seam and stitch 3/8" from seam; trim as needed.
  13. Sew bias tape to hood and neck opening as shown in photo.
  14. Sew bias tape to outside edges of cape as shown in photo.

FROG FACE POCKET

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 7"x 9" fabric for face
  • 2"x 3" pink fabric remnant for cheeks
  • 1 1/2"x 2" black fabric remnant for eyes
  • 7"x 11" fusible webbing
  • Disappearing fabric marker
  • Matching & contrasting thread
  • Iron & ironing surface
  • Basic sewing supplies

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Enlarge patterns.
  2. Draw patterns onto paper side of fusible webbing.
  3. Follow manufacturer's directions and fuse patterns onto WS of fabrics.
  4. Refer to photo for placement and fuse face to front of pocket (centered and 3/4" from bottom edge).
  5. Use disappearing marker to draw mouth in place.
  6. Sew over drawn line with a tight zigzag stitch.
  7. Fuse cheeks over ends of mouth; applique with a tight zigzag stitch.
  8. Fuse eyes in place; applique.
  9. Fold pocket in half and stitch with 1/2" seam sides and bottom; leaving an opening for turning.
  10. Clip corners and turn RS out; press.
  11. Edge stitch sides of pocket.
  12. Position pocket in center 5" down from neck opening.
  13. Stitch across top and bottom of pocket.

DUCK FACE POCKET

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 7"x 9" fabric for face
  • 3"x 6" orange fabric remnant for beak
  • 1 1/2"x 2" black fabric remnant for eyes
  • 7"x 11" fusible webbing
  • Disappearing fabric marker
  • Matching & contrasting thread
  • Iron & ironing surface
  • Basic sewing supplies

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Enlarge patterns.
  2. Draw patterns onto paper side of fusible webbing.
  3. Follow manufacturer's directions and fuse patterns onto WS of fabrics.
  4. Refer to photo for placement and fuse face to front of pocket (centered and ¾" from bottom edge).
  5. Use disappearing marker to draw mouth in place.
  6. Sew over drawn line with a tight zigzag stitch.
  7. Applique beak on with a tight zigzag stitch around the outside first then stitch the “mouth".
  8. Fuse eyes in place; applique.
  9. Fold pocket in half and stitch with 1/2" seam sides and bottom; leaving an opening for turning.
  10. Clip corners and turn RS out; press.
  11. Edge stitch sides of pocket.
  12. Position pocket in center 5" down from neck opening.
  13. Stitch across top and bottom of pocket.

SHARK FACE POCKET

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 7"x 9" fabric for face & fin
  • 2"x 6" white fabric remnant for teeth
  • 1 1/2"x 2 1/2" black fabric remnant for eyes
  • 7"x 11" fusible webbing
  • Disappearing fabric marker
  • Matching & contrasting thread
  • Iron & ironing surface
  • Basic sewing supplies

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Enlarge patterns.
  2. Draw patterns onto paper side of fusible webbing.
  3. Follow manufacturer's directions and fuse patterns onto WS of fabrics.
  4. Refer to photo for placement and fuse face to front of pocket. (Centered and 3/4" from bottom edge.) Note: face will extend over fold for pocket.
  5. Use disappearing marker to draw “snout" in place.
  6. Sew over drawn line with a tight zigzag stitch.
  7. Fuse teeth in place; applique with a tight zigzag stitch as shown in photo.
  8. Fuse eyes in place; applique.
  9. Fold pocket in half and stitch with 1/2" seam sides and bottom; leaving an opening for turning.
  10. Clip corners and turn RS out; press.
  11. Edge stitch sides of pocket.
  12. Lay pocket in place centered and 5" down from neck opening.
  13. Position fin onto cape above pocket.
  14. Fuse in place; applique.
  15. Place pocket over fin to match and stitch across top and bottom of pocket.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not all there! This is a good idea, but the URL to download the PDF doesn't work and the hood and neck patterns are not included on the web, so it's basically useless. I'll have to design my own after all.
