SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
DIRECTIONS: Seams are 1/4" unless noted.
JOANN HACKS:
- 3/4yd of sheer fabric for bow and mask
- 5" of cotton fabric for mask
- 1 barrette for bow
- 1/4" elastic, 14"
- Clear thread for bow
- Kraft paper
- Pencil
- Sewing notions
DIRECTIONS: Seams are 1/4" unless noted.
- Mask: Cut 1 organza, 2 cotton 8 1/4" long x 5" high. Cut 2 elastic 7" each.
- Bow: Cut 1 organza, 34" long x 8" high.
- Bow tie ends: Cut 2 organza 14" long x 7" wide, Cut 1 organza knot 5"x 4".
- Sew mask: Place organza over cotton. Place 2nd cotton on top of organza. Sew all three together on just the top and bottom, leaving an opening for turning. Tack elastic inside laying on top of the organza then bring it to the bottom, tacking elastic. With all three layers still right side in, gather side to 2". Turn mask right side out, press. Hand stitch opening closed.
- Bow: Sew all long edges of bow with a 1/16" turn hem then turn and hem again. Sew short ends of bow together. Place seam in the center and gather or pleat to 1 1/4". Fold fabric over and over small knot over the center of bow. Hand stitch closed.
- Sew all edges of the tie ends with a 1/16" turn and turn hem. Gather or pleat tie ends. Hand stitch to back of bow. Tack both ends of the barrette to secure.
JOANN HACKS:
- Stitching organza with a 1/16" hem first then hemming again 1/16" makes for a flatter even hem.
- Using a size #12 needle for hemming organza prevents making snags or skip stitches.
