Child’s Twinkle Yarn Hat and Scarf

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

• 1 Skein Big Twist in White
• 1 Skein Big Twist in Black
• 2 Skeins Big Twist in Sparkle Red.
• US H Hook
• UH I Hook
• Optional: Pom-Pom Maker


• MEASUREMENT
• Hat: 18" Circumference at stretchy bri
• Scarf: 8" wide, length at your discretion

DIRECTIONS:

HAT

With H hook:
Beginning at top of the hat, working in rounds.
With white yarn:
Round 1: Ch 4, slip stitch into first ch creating a ring. Ch 3, dc 12 into the ring, join with a slip stitch in the first dc. (12 dcs)
Round 2: Ch 3, 2 dc in each dc of previous round. Join with a slip stitch in the first dc. (24 dcs)
Round 3: Ch 3, (1 dc, 2 dc in next dc) around. Join with a slip stitch in the first dc. (36 dcs)
Round 4: Ch 3, (2 dc, 2 dc in next dc) around. Join with a slip stitch in the first dc. Break yarn and fasten off. (48 dcs)
Round 5: Switch to black yarn, join with a slip stitch in any dc. Ch 1, hdc in each stitch around, join with a slip stitch in first hdc. (48 hdcs)
Round 6: Ch 3, (3 dc, 2 dc in next dc) around. Join with a slip stitch in the first dc. Break yarn and fasten off. (60 dcs)
Round 5: Switch to white yarn, join with a slip stitch in any dc. Ch 1, hdc in each stitch around, join with a slip stitch in first hdc. (60 hdcs)
Round 7: Ch 3, (Dc 19, 2 dc in next dc) around, join with slip stitch in first dc. Break yarn and fasten off. (63 dcs)
Round 8: Switch to black yarn, join with a slip stitch in any dc. Ch 1, sc in same stitch. (Ch 1, skip 1 dc, sc) around to last sc, ch 1, join with slip stitch in first sc.
Round 8: Ch 3, (Cl 1, ch 1) in each ch 1 space around. Join with a slip stitch in the first Cl.
Round 9: Ch 1, hdc in each stitch and ch 1 space of row below. Join with a slip stitch in the first hdc. Break yarn and fasten off. (63 hdcs)
Round 10: Switch to white yarn. Join with a slip stitch in any hdc, Ch 3, dc in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch in first stitch.
Round 11: Ch 1, sc in same stitch. (Ch 1, skip 1 dc, sc) around to last sc, ch 1, join with slip stitch in first sc.
Round 12: Repeat Row 8. Break yarn and fasten off.
Round 13: With black yarn, join with slip stitch in any stitch. Ch 1, sc in each cl and ch 1 space, working 3 decreases evenly across the row by working a sc2tog over a cl and a ch 1 space. Join with a slip stitch in first sc, fasten off and break yarn.
Set hat to the side.

BRIM
With red yarn:
Row 1: Ch 7. Sc into 2nd ch from hook, sc across. (6 sc)
Row 2: Ch 1, work one row of sc through back loop only.
Repeat Row 2 until piece measures 2" less than bottom of the crochet hat. Slip stitch each end together to form a band. Do not break yarn. With wrong side of the hat facing you, single crochet together the edge of the brim of the hat so that it evenly fits and stretches together. Join with a slip stitch, break yarn and fasten off.
In red yarn, create a pom-pom with a pom-pom maker or your preferred method and affix it to the top of the hat. Weave in and snip all ends.

SCARF

With US I Hook.
With red yarn:
Row 1: Ch 28, Sc 1 in the second ch from the hook. Sc across . (27 scs)
Row 2: Ch 1, sc. (Ch 1, skip one sc, sc in next stitch) across the row, ending with 1 sc in the last sc.
Row 3: Ch 4, (Cl into ch 1 space, ch 1) until the last 2 stitches, skip 1 sc, dc in last stitch.
Row 4: Ch 1, sc in first stitch. (Ch 1, sc into chain 1 space) across the row, ending with 1 sc into last stitch.
Repeat rows 3 and 4 once more.
(Switch to black yarn, work rows 3 and 4, switch to white yarn and work rows 3 and 4) twice, switch to black and work rows 3 and 4.
Switch to red yarn and work until the scarf is 7" from desired finished length, or 35" or so.
Repeat black and white row stitch pattern to mirror the first half of the scarf, ending with one row of sc in red.

TASSELS
With red yarn, wrap a book with yarn enough to create 4 tassels to affix to each corner of the scarf. Cut the yarn to create bundles of even strands. Separate into four bundles. Using a larks head knot, affix each bundle to each corner of the scarf.
