Circle Purse, Midi Dress and Flower Applique Jean Jacket

Circle Purse

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

• 1/2yd fabric
• 1/2yd lining
• 1 pkg. SF101 Shape-flex fusible interfacing
• 2 yds 1/4" piping
• 14" zipper
• 2 small swivel hook & D-ring
• Loop turner
• Sewing notions

DIRECTIONS: Seams are 3/8" unless noted.

1. Cut two 9 3/8" circles out of fabric, lining and fusible interfacing
2. Cut one strip 3 1/4" X 16 3/8" for sides
3. Cut two 1 1/2" X 14" strips for zipper inserts
4. Cut one strip 2" X 38 3/4" for purse shoulder strap
5. Cut two 3" X 2" for loops for D-ring
6. Cut two Bias strips approx. 30" each X 1 5/8"
7. Press fusible interfacing to fabric. Measure the outside edge of circle. Sew 1/4" cording to bias strips to the measurements of the outside circle, closing the connecting strip with a seam and cutting the cording to fit to both circles.
8. Shorten zipper if needed. Attach zipper to two opposite’s edges of fabric to match the side fabric. Top stitch on the edge of fabric to zipper.
9. Center strips: Sew the fabric for loops by folding the fabric to fit the D-ring size. Stitch to opposite ends and sides of zipper. Attach to zipper strip to fabric strip. Sew purse circles to center strips.
10. Lining: Repeat sewing circles to side strip leaving the opening for zipper to hand stitch closed to zipper.
11. Shoulder Strap: Sew right sides of strap together, turn right sides out with loop turner, top stitch on the both edges. Fold into swivel hook and top stitch down. Hook onto D-ring.

JOANN HACKS:

• Using a size #16 needle for the purse layers.
• Use a cording foot or a zipper foot to get close to cording.

Flower Applique Denim Jacket

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

• Purchased denim jacket
• 1/4yd of gold denim
• Scrap of plaid fabric
• Wonder Under
• Pencil
• Sewing notions

DIRECTIONS: Seams are 5/8" unless noted.

1. Cut a 9" circle. Press onto one side of the Wonder Under. Create a template for one pedal of 1 5/8" X 2" long. Draw on the white paper of the pressed Wonder Under with pencil, divide circle into quarters. Place template center onto the center quarter mark so that 1/2 of template is centered on each side. Repeat marking template on each quarter. Place template in the middle, pencil and cut excess around to create pedals.
2. Draw a 3" circle plaid fabric, press to Wonder Under. The draw a small circle, trimming about 1/4" off as excess. Peel white paper off plaid, centered to gold pedals and press.
3. Peel off white paper from the back of Wonder Under for the pedals, press to jacket.
4. Using gold thread, zig zag around edges of pedals and circle.

JOANN HACKS:

• Using a zig zag around edges to secure applique will not peel with use.

Puffy Sleeve Midi Dress

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

• McCall’s 8033 for dress
• McCall’s 8034 sleeves
• 3/8yd of tulle for adding volume to sleeve
• 3/8yd of netting for adding volume to sleeve
• Sewing notions

DIRECTIONS: Seams are 5/8" unless noted.

1. Follow instructions on patterns for dress and sleeves.
2. To add volume to sleeves, cut out two layers of netting and four layers of tulle.
3. Sew both layers of tulle and netting to sleeve, making sure tulle is close to the skin and netting is between tulle and fabric. Gather all layers together and sew into armhole.

• Using tulle and netting will keep the sleeve from falling flat.
