SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Cotton fabric
  • Medium weight interfacing
  • Swivel hook hardware with 1" base
  • Scissors or rotary cutter
  • Straight edge
  • Cutting mat
  • Iron
  • Straight pins
  • Sewing machine with matching thread and zipper foot
  • Size 14 snap
  • Chalk

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Use Template to cut out 1 Fabric and 1 Interfacing Backing, 1 Fabric and 1 Interfacing Pocket Back, 1 Fabric and 1 Interfacing Pocket Front, and 1 Fabric and 1 Interfacing Strap.
  2. Apply Interfacing to wrong side of corresponding fabric piece.
  3. Fold bottom of Backing piece 1/4" to wrong side and press with your iron.
  4. Fold bottom and top of Pocket Front piece 1/4" to wrong side and press with your iron.
  5. Fold bottom of Pocket Back piece 1/4" to wrong side and press with your iron.
  6. Stitch across each fold.
  7. With right sides together, line up Pocket Front piece to bottom of Backing Piece. Pin in place and stitch up the sides.
  8. With right sides together, line up Pocket Back piece to top of Backing Piece. Pin in place and stitch up the sides, leave the top open.
  9. Set main body aside.
  10. Take your strap piece and fold in half, short side to short side, and press fold with your iron. Pin into place and stitch down long sides with 1/4" seam allowance. Trim corners and turn right side out; it helps to use something like a point turner or the handle of a paintbrush to push the bottom up and with your fingers pull the sides down.
  11. Press strap with your iron.
  12. Sandwich the strap piece in between the Pocket Back and Backing pieces, matching the raw edges together. Center the raw edge of the strap along the top edge; the folded edge of the strap will be sticking out of the bottom edge of the Pocket Back.
  13. Sew along top edge.
  14. Flip the whole thing right side out and press with your iron.
  15. Slide the swivel hook onto the strap, fold the strap around it, pin and sew with your sewing machine’s zipper foot.
  16. Put your sanitizer bottle inside of the holder to fill it out and determine placement of the snap on the holder’s body. Fold the strap down and mark with chalk the point on the body that meets the center of the strap and is about 1/4" from the edge of the strap.
  17. Attach the socket side of the snap on your chalk marking, following the snap manufacturer’s instructions.
  18. Put the sanitizer bottle back inside the holder to determine placement of the stud side of the snap. Fold the strap down and hold it taut against the snap on the body, and trace the outline of the snap with your chalk.
  19. Attach the stud side of the snap on your chalk marking, following the snap manufacturer’s instructions.

JOANN HACKS:

  • Feel free to use something other than a snap, like hook and loop tape, to keep the strap secure.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Something is wrong Something is wrong with the instructions, not to mention the pieces don’t line up in size. I’m a seasoned sewer so I don’t think it’s me.
