SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 100% cotton fabric
  • 2yds fabric ties 2 yards: 1/2" double-fold bias tape, 3/8" twill tape, 3/8" grosgrain ribbon or make your own using knit or woven fabric
  • Pattern template (download PDF)
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Cricut Machine
  • Cricut Iron-On
  • EasyPress

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Download the pattern by clicking “download PDF" below Print Description on the right.
  2. Cut 4 pattern pieces out of fabric (cut 2 together, twice).
  3. Cut fabric ties to about 18" each.
  4. To make your own woven fabric ties, cut strips 1 1/2"x 36" long. Fold strip in half long ways and press. Fold raw edges in toward center fold and press again. Stitch down the side to close tie. Cut to 18" length and finish one side by folding twice about 1/4" and stitching to secure.
  5. To make your own knit fabric ties, cut strips of knit fabric 1 1/2" wide. Stretch strips out until knit fabric rolls. Trim down to 18" lengths.
  6. Layout your design in Design Space and cut out of iron-on material.
  7. Apply iron-ons to outer mask pieces using EasyPress and settings appropriate to your materials.
  8. Match pieces right sides together, and sew the outer curve using 3/8" seam allowance. Repeat with remaining two pieces.
  9. Open pieces and press both seam allowances to the right.
  10. Topstitch down the seam allowance, about 1/4" from the seam.
  11. Lay one half of the mask down with the right side facing up. Pin raw ends of fabric ties in each corner, placing them 1/2" up/down from the top and bottom edges. Finished tie ends should extend toward the middle of the mask. Once ties are pinned in place, bundle the tie ends together in the center of the mask.
  12. Match front and back pieces right sides together, nesting center front seams.
  13. Pin and sew around the exterior of the mask, leaving a small opening at the bottom of the mask between the center front seam and corner.
  14. Clip across corners, taking care not to cut through the stitching.
  15. Turn mask right side out and press.
  16. Topstitch around the mask, closing the hole at the bottom in the process.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not a Great fit Masks fun small. Not great quality. The masks fill like they are made for children. Too small

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Needs tweaks As the reviewer Antonia stated, it needs a pleat on the side to prevent gaps. I used 7 in of elastic with 1/4 in seam allowance on each side instead of making ties.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Strip length I made masks like this and I used 6 inch for children or petite people, 7 inch for average woman, 8 inch for men. Keep in mind that one can always tie the straps in a knot to reduce the length. Better too long than too short. Good luck!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from How much elastic to use If I make the pattern to reach my ears, I use 5.5" of elastic, of which 1/4" is seam allowances (x2). A good way to try is to start at one point on the edge of the mask, wrap around your ear and measure to the opposite edge. It's amazing how similar (within fractions of an inch) our individual ear lengths are.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from good template, but does NOT use elastic, as says This is basically the same template as the other masks from JoAnn, but I was looking for the suggested elastic length. The instructions do not include elastic us, just ties.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Shocked at how many people can't find the pattern. Not hard to find. JUST CLICK ON DOWNLOAD PDF. But, I don't think it should show elastic when it's not possible to buy.
