DIRECTIONS:
To find the downloadable patterns click on the "GET PATTERNS" tab above.
  1. This project makes six clothespin puppets. Make more for more fun.
  2. Paint clothespins and set them aside to allow them to dry.
  3. Print out the "face" designs provided and use scissors to cut out the patterns. These patterns are now ready to use as templates. Trace and cut shapes from the construction paper. If you prefer to cut without leaving pencil marks, use painter's tape to gently tack a rough cut-out template to construction paper and cut both simultaneously without tracing. Cut along the provided cutline through each face to create a top and bottom.
  4. Decorate faces by adding mustaches, cheeks, freckles, and mouths with construction paper, markers, or chenille stems. Add wiggle eyes. Glue the top and bottom of each face to the top and bottom of each clothespin, aligning them.
  5. Glue loose pompoms as hair to the front or back of the puppet.

JOANN HACKS:
  • Hot glue gun/glue gun sticks can help glue some materials together if an adult crafter assists.
  • Adults can use an X-Acto knife to cut more complex shapes.
  • Customize your puppet's hair; for example, trim pompom asymmetrically to make hair with "bangs" or leave the yarn loops to make long flowing locks.
  • Clothespin puppets are a great party or playdate activity.
