SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Coffee Print Apron Template
  • 2yds cotton fabric
  • 5yds 1/2" bias tape
  • 1/4yd interfacing
  • straightedge
  • Rotary cutter and cutting mat
  • Iron
  • Sewing machine and thread
  • Straight pins

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Use the Coffee Print Apron Template to cut out two cotton top pieces, one interfacing top piece, and one cotton pocket piece.

  2. Adhere the interfacing to the wrong side of a cotton top piece with an iron and set aside.

  3. _x000B_Cut two 32" lengths of bias tape. On both lengths, sew one short edge and the open long edge closed.

  4. Place an Apron top piece in front of you, right side up. Match the short, raw edges of the bias tape to the raw edges at the top of either side of the neckline V. The length of the bias tape will rest on top of the Apron top piece. Baste raw edges of the bias tape and Apron top together, and pin the bias tape lengths into the center of the Apron top piece where they will be well out of the way of the sewing machine’s needle. Place the other Apron top piece over top of the bias tape, right sides together, matching all edges, and pin into place. Sew along the sides and top of the Apron top piece, leave the bottom open. Trim the point of the neckline V down to about 1/8", being careful not to cut through the stitching. Turn Apron top rightside out.

  5. Set aside.

  6. Cut 42"x 45" piece of cotton for the apron skirt. Fold it in half, right sides together, matching long edges for a rectangle measuring 21"x 45". Sew down the short, 21", edges. Trim the bottom corners and flip rightside out. Iron the bottom crease. Pin along the top edge and sew two basting lines at the top edge. Gently pull the threads of the basting stitches to gather up the material at the top of the apron skirt. Gather it together until the top of the skirt extends only an inch past either side of the apron top. Sew along the top edge of the skirt with a 1/4" seam allowance to secure the gathering into place.

  7. Match the raw edge of the apron top to the raw edge of the skirt. Center the apron top edge and pin into place. Sew along the raw edge of the apron top with a 3/8" seam allowance. Unfold the apron top and press down the sewn edge with an iron.

  8. Trim down the material in the seam allowance, close to the seam but being very careful not to cut the stitching.

  9. Set aside.

  10. Cut a 90" length of bias tape.

  11. Fold the bias tape in half widthwise to find the center and place over the center of the raw skirt top edge. Place the bottom edge of the bias tape so that it covers the seam of the skirt. Open the bias tape and pin in place. Continue to place and pin all the way across the skirt seam. Sew along the crease of the bias tape, all the way across the skirt. Then fold the bias tape back up and press with your iron.

  12. Tuck the short ends of the bias tape in and sew. Then sew the top of the bias tape onto the apron top, and continue to sew the long, open edge of the bias tape all the way until the ends. Remove any visible basting stitches from the top of the skirt.

  13. To create the pocket, fold the top of the pocket down 1/4" and press with your iron. Then, fold it down an additional 3/8" and press with your iron. Sew the top of the pocket in place along its bottom folded edge. Next, sew two lines of basting stitches around the sides and bottom of the pocket. Pull the ends of the basting threads to create a small gather. Push the gather down to the rounded corners until the seam allowance at the rounded corners pulls up smoothly. Press with your iron. Pin the pocket onto the desired place on the apron top and topstitch the pocket close to the edge on the side and bottom.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from way too small This style doesn't make sense. It's so narrow at the top that it only looks good if you wear size small or xs. I do like the ties, but it's a waste of fabric.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not enough detail The drawing for the pattern doesn’t show the fold. The measurements seem way too small. The skirt is gathered to fit 1” past the edges of the top width but that is only 10” as written. No mention of seam allowance or anything. Wasted time and material.
