  12. Square up quilt top as necessary. Sandwich backing, batting, and quilt top, smoothing out wrinkles and pinning through all 3 layers with safety pins. Backing and batting should extend beyond quilt top approximately 6" in each direction.
  13. Quilt every 2" vertically.
  14. Cut (4) 2.5" strips from fabric H. Sew together to form one long binding strip. Fold and press strip in half along length. Strip should be 1.25" wide.
  15. Leaving a 6" tail of binding, start in the middle of one side of the quilt, pin and sew binding to quilt front, lining up raw edge of binding to raw edge of quilt. As you approach the first corner, stop 1/4" from the edge of the quilt, backstitch, and remove quilt from machine.
  16. Fold the unsewn length of binding up perpendicular to the seam just sewn, creating a 45-degree fold at the corner.
  17. Next, fold the unsewn length of binding down so that the fold is even with the raw edge of quilt and binding previously sewn.
  18. Beginning at the corner just folded, pin binding in place along raw edge of quilt. Take a few stitches and backstitch in place. Continue sewing binding in place until the next corner is reached. Repeat process above for each corner. Stop 6" from the beginning seam of binding.
  19. Unfold the two tails of binding fabric. Fit remaining binding ends to quilt by sewing binding ends together on a diagonal as when you sewed the binding strips together, making sure to remove any excess in the process. Trim excess, leaving 1/4" seam allowances. Fold binding in half along established crease and finish sewing into place.
  20. Fold binding over raw edge of quilt, and hand stitch into place on the back side of quilt. At each corner, tuck excess binding under to create a 45-degree mitered corner.
