SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- 1 1/4 yd each of two different colors of fleece
- 1 skein embroidery floss
- Chenille hand needle
- Rotary cutter, ruler and mat
- Pinking rotary blade - optional
- Air erasable fabric marker
- Basic sewing supplies
- Sewing machine - optional
DIRECTIONS:
- Cut each fleece piece in half parallel to the selvedge edges of the fabric.
- Draw a script capital letter centered about 16" from the bottom of a narrow end of one piece of fleece on the right side of the fabric. Tip: If it is hard to tell which is the right side simply stretch one short end of the fabric and the edge will curl toward the back of the fabric. Use all six strands of the embroidery floss and the chenille needle to sew a stem stitch to form the letter.
- Fold the fabric in half lengthwise with the letter on the fold. Cut the folded fabric 12" from the fold forming a 24" wide piece of fabric when unfolded. Square off the short ends, each piece will be about 24"x 44". Repeat on one piece of the other fleece color. There will be enough fleece leftover to make another blanket scarf. Note: The logical thing seems to be to buy 2/3 of a yard of each fleece and not have the leftovers but the grain of the fabric would be going the wrong way so the side of the scarf would curl.
- Mark a line across 6" from the bottom of both pieces of the scarf. Cut fringe about 3/8" wide from the line to the bottom of the fleece. This will make a 6" fringe.
- To join the two pieces of fleece, overlap the ends of the two scarf pieces by an inch and pin securely in place. A straight stitch, zig zag or three step zigzag can be sewn by the sewing machine down the length of the overlapped fleece, or use the embroidery floss and hand stitch down the length of the overlap. For a decorative edge to the overlap use the pinking blade on the rotary cutter to cut the end before joining the pieces. Tip: If you prefer not sewing at all use Fabri-Tac glue to glue the overlap together. (Fabric-Tac is not on the supply list)
