Colorblocked Fleece and Sherpa Pillows

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Sherpa fabric
  • Fleece fabric
  • Pillow forms
  • Basic sewing supplies

DIRECTIONS:

    14"X 28" PILLOW:

  1. Cut a 36"x 16" piece of sherpa fabric
  2. Cut a 28"x 16" piece of sherpa fabric
  3. Cut a 6"x 16" piece of fleeceĀ 
  4. Use 1/2" seam allowance unless noted otherwise.
  5. Sew the 6"x 16" piece of fleece to the sherpa fabrics to create a strip for the front of the pillow.
  6. Sew hem on the 16" ends by turning under 1/2" and then another 1/2" to finish the ends.
  7. Lay fabric right side up and fold short ends towards center, overlapping finished ends, measuring to from folded edges to make desired size.
  8. Double check size of the pillow, making sure the finished pillow matches the size of your pillow form.
  9. Sew sides of pillowcase, making sure the center is overlapped to make an envelope back.
  10. Turn right side out and insert pillow form.

    18" (16") SQUARE PILLOW WITH TRIANGLE:

  1. Cut 19"x 19" (17"x 17") square from both the sherpa and fleece
  2. Lay two pieces, right sides together and cut diagonally to create triangles.
  3. Sew right sides together along the diagonal to create pillow front.
  4. Cut 2 pieces 14"x 19" (12"x 17") sherpa fabric for back.
  5. Sew hem on two of the 19" (17") sides by turning under 1/2" and then another 1/2" to finish the ends.
  6. Lay fabric right sides together with the pillow front overlapping the back pieces to create an envelope back.
  7. Sew around edges, turn right side out and insert pillow form.

    18" ROUND PILLOW:

  1. Cut 18" circle of fleece fabric.
  2. Cut an 18" circle of sherpa to use for geometric shape on pillow front.
  3. Cut sherpa circle in half and measure 12" across, straight cut edge and cut 6" end off to create larger piece of sherpa for pillow front.
  4. With right sides together, pin to fleece circle and sew along the 12" side of sherpa, fold open.
  5. Using the other half of the sherpa circle, trim 2" off the straight edge to make a half circle that is 7" tall at the middle.
  6. With right sides together, pin to fleece circle and sew along long edge to create geometric shape on pillow front, fold open.
  7. Cut two 18" circles of sherpa for back.
  8. Measure 12" from edge of both circles and cut straight across to make 2 semi-circles.
  9. Fold and hem along straight edge by turning under 1/2" and then another 1/2" to finish ends.
  10. Lay right sides together with pillow front and overlapping the back pieces to create an envelope back.
  11. Sew around edges, turn right side out and insert pillow form.

JOANN HACKS:

  • Use a walking foot to help with sewing sherpa fabric.
  • Use fleece or sherpa for back of pillows.
