  • Flush Cut Pliers

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Begin by using a pair of the smallest round Copper Ear Hoops from the hildie & jo Findings, Ear Hoop Metal Round & Teardrop Oxidized Copper pack.
  2. Open the pack of hildie & jo Preciosa Bicone Crystals 4mm 36pc Light Amethyst
  3. Work in a production line style where you place all the beads on the ball pins before you start wrapping them.

  4. The order for the first and second hoop:
    • 1 Ball Pin, 1 Bicone for the center loop dangle of the hoop.
    • 1 Ball Pin, 1 Bicone
    • 1 Ball Pin, 2 Bicones
    • 1 Ball Pin, 3 Bicones
    • 1 Ball Pin, 2 Bicones
    • 1 Ball Pin, 1 Bicone

  5. Line up your ball pins with the beads on them in order. Use your round nose pliers to form the first part of a wrapped loop, leaving the loop open.
  6. Starting with the center hole of the Ear Hoop, take one of the ball pins with 1 crystal on it and slide it over the center hole. It will dangle, but you need to finish the double wrapped loop to attach it.
  7. Using your round nose pliers, pinch the loop where the loop crosses itself on the ball pin. Then using your chain nose pliers, complete the double wrapped loop.
  8. Your loops do not have to be perfect as a messy loop only adds to the rustic look of these earrings.
  9. Use your flush cutters to trim off the excess wire and tuck the ends in with your chain nose pliers.
  10. Continue with the same procedure for the rest of the ball pins and crystals, placing them in order along the bottom of the Copper Ear Hoop.
  11. Once done with the wrapped loops on the first hoop, create the second one using the same instructions and technique.
  12. The 4mm Copper Jump Rings are used to stop the beads from bunching up and they help to create perfectly spaced dangles.
  13. Use 2 4mm jump rings on the ends, and 4 4mm jump rings between each ball pin with crystals
  14. Lay out your jump rings on your work surface. Using 2 pairs of chain nose pliers, one on each side of the jump ring, with the split at the top between your pliers, carefully twist the jump ring, one side towards you, the other side away from you.
  15. Tip: Never pull the two sides apart. This risks the jump ring snapping and you will lose the perfect round shape.
  16. Begin to add the jump rings to the hoop, starting with the 2 outside rings first.
  17. Position one jump ring onto your chain nose pliers, add it to the earring hoop and hold it in place with your pliers, get your second chain nose plier and close the jump ring, slowly rocking the ends together until they line up nicely. Continue to add jump rings in this way until all spacers are on both earrings.
  18. The connector crystal was made using a ball pin and snipping the ball off with your flush cutter.
  19. Start a tiny double wrapped loop on one end and pass it through the hole at the very top of the Copper Ear Hoop. Finish off the double wrapped loop the same way you did on the earring dangles using your round nose pliers to hold the loop you just made in place while using your chain nose pliers to wrap the wire. Add a 4mm Amethyst Crystal Bicone to the wire and finish the connector with another double wrapped loop.
  20. Take your Fishhook ear wire and twist the loop open, adding the earring you just made to it, and close the loop to secure the earring in place.
  21. Repeat Instructions to complete the second earring.

JOANN HACKS:

  • Double Wrapped Loops should always be used when you want to protect expensive or heavier beads from getting lost. It can add to your design and give your designs a more polished look.
