SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Fabric shears
  • Hot glue gun/glue gun sticks
  • Serger
  • Iron
  • Ironing starch

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Start by folding over the raw edge of your fabric by 1". Iron into place and use small dots of hot glue to hold the fold.
  2. Wrap your fabric around the box. Trim your fabric so that the ends overlap by a few inches and trim.
  3. Secure the ends in place with a few dots of glue. This will be the same process you typically go through when wrapping a present with paper but with fabric.
  4. Folding the sides: With the seam of the fabric on the bottom of the box let the side pieces of fabric drape over. Smooth down the panel while holding out the bottom of the fabric to create a triangular fold on the side.
  5. Fold the left side triangle into the center and secure with a few dots of hot glue.
  6. Fold the right side to create the same triangle and fold in. Secure with a few dots of hot glue.
  7. With one flap of fabric on the bottom side of your box, carefully fold into another triangle and fold up to meet the intersection of the left and right triangle. Secure with hot glue.
  8. With a low temp iron you can carefully press these folds to help them look crisp and clean.
  9. To make the bow: Sew together 8" wide pieces of cotton fabric. Use a french seam to avoid fraying.
  10. Serge the ends of your ribbon with contrasting threads.
  11. To create a stiff bow using spray iron starch on your fabric and press. One you've tied your bow, stuff the loops with a towel and gently press to get out any wrinkles.

Craft Hack Tips and Tricks:

  • To keep your bow perfectly in place you can use some straight pins without heads and stab them through the cardboard or use a couple dabs of hot glue.
