Cotton Fabric Organizing Bins

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1/2yd fabric
  • 1yd heavy iron-on interfacing
  • 1/8yd contrasting fabric for binding OR 1 Pkg. 1/2" double fold bias tape
  • Matching thread
  • Basic sewing supplies

DIRECTIONS:

  • NOTE: Use 1/2" seam allowance
  • Cut fabric:
  • 4 pieces 11" L x 8" H
  • 4 pieces 7" L x 8" H
  • 2 pieces 11" L x 7" W
  • Cut interfacing:
  • 4 pieces 10" L x 7" H
  • 4 pieces 6" L x 7" H
  • 2 pieces 10" L x 6" W

  • Cut 2 strips 2" x WOF for binding
  • With RST, sew the top seams of the side pieces together.
  • Press seam open and then press pieces WST at the seam.
  • Center a piece of interfacing on the WS of each piece and press in place.
  • With WST stitch sides together ending 1/2" from bottom.
  • For fabric binding, fold binding in half, open, then fold edges to center, refold; press.
  • Encase seam in binding and stitch in place.
  • Center interfacing on WS of bottom pieces, fuse in place.
  • Pin or baste bottom pieces WS together.
  • With WST, stitch bottom to sides, one side at a time.
  • Encase bottom seam in binding and stitch in place.

    • JOANN HACKS:

    • Purchased pre-made double fold bias tape can be used
    • Basting the binding to the seams may help keep the binding in place while stitching.

  • 10 pieces 7" W x 7" H
  • 2 pieces 7" W x 9" H for outside pockets
  • Cut interfacing:
  • 10 pieces 6"L x 6" H
  • Cut contrast fabric:
  • 2 strips 2" x WOF for binding
  • 4 pieces 7" W x 9" H for inside pockets

  • With RST, sew the top seams of the side pieces together.
  • Press seam open and then press pieces WST at the seam.
  • Center a piece of interfacing on the WS of each piece and press in place.
  • For pockets, fold pieces in half long-wise and press.
  • Open side pieces and stitch in place to either the front or back.
  • Fold and press sides WST.
  • With WST stitch sides together ending 1/2" from bottom.
  • For fabric binding, fold binding in half, open, then fold edges to center, refold; press.
  • Encase seam in binding and stitch in place.
  • Center interfacing on WS of bottom pieces, fuse in place.
  • Pin or baste bottom pieces WS together.
  • With WST, stitch bottom to sides, one side at a time.
  • Encase bottom seam in binding and stitch in place.
