  • SMALL:
    • 1/2 yd Printed Cotton

DIRECTIONS:

LARGE:
  1. Fuse lightweight interfacing to wrong side of printed cotton. Cut (2) Template A LARGE from printed cotton, (2) from solid cotton. Also cut (1) strips 3" x 40" from printed cotton and (1) from solid cotton, (1) strips 4 1/2" x 40" from printed cotton and (1) from solid cotton, (1) rectangle 9" x 7" from printed cotton and (1) from solid cotton. For handle, cut (2) strips 14 1/4" x 2" from printed cotton.
  2. Baste 1 Template A printed cotton to 1 solid cotton, wrong sides together. Repeat with second Template A. Sew (2) 14 1/4"x 2" handle strips together, right sides together. Turn, press, and top stitch 1/8" in on each seam edge.
  3. Pin zipper in place along 40" edge of 3" wide solid cotton strip. Place the 3" printed cotton strip on top, wrong sides together, and pin in place. Using zipper foot attachment, sew along 40" length. Turn fabric strips so that wrong sides are facing and the zipper is to one side of the fabric strips. Top stitch 1/8" in from seam along the fabric strips. Repeat with 4 1/2" x 40" strips.
  4. Pin one end of the zipper strip between the 7" edges of the 9" x 7" rectangles with right sides together, being sure that the solid cotton sides are matching and the printed cotton sides are matching. Sew and turn so fabric is right side out. Top stitch 1/8" in from seam on the rectangle. Repeat along opposite end of zipper strip and 7" edge of rectangle.
  5. Top stitch handle in place on bag top using Template A placement guide.
  6. Pin bag top, right sides together, to raw edge of the shorter fabric strip of the zipper strip piece, lining up beginning and end of zipper with notches on Template A. Repeat for the bottom of the bag, attaching it to the longer of the two fabric strips of the zipper strip, be sure to open the zipper partially before attaching the bottom of the bag.
  7. Finish raw edges of seams by tucking them into the bias tape and top stitching in place.

MEDIUM:
  1. Fuse lightweight interfacing to wrong side of printed cotton. Cut (2) Template A MEDIUM from printed cotton, (2) from solid cotton. Also cut (1) strips 2 1/2" x 30" from printed cotton and (1) from solid cotton, (1) strips 4" x 30" from printed cotton and (1) from solid cotton, (1) rectangle 8 1/2" x 6 1/2" from printed cotton and (1) from solid cotton. For handle, cut (2) strips 11 1/2" x 2" from printed cotton.
  2. Baste 1 Template A printed cotton to 1 solid cotton, wrong sides together. Repeat with second Template A. Sew (2) 11 1/2"x 2" handle strips together, right sides together. Turn, press, and top stitch 1/8" in on each seam edge.
  3. Pin zipper in place along 30" edge of 2.5" wide solid cotton strip. Place the 2.5" printed cotton strip on top, wrong sides together, and pin in place. Using zipper foot attachment, sew along 30" length. Turn fabric strips so that wrong sides are facing and the zipper is to one side of the fabric strips. Top stitch 1/8" in from seam along the fabric strips. Repeat with 4" x 30" strips.
  4. Pin one end of the zipper strip between the 6 1/2" edges of the 8.5" x 6 1/2" rectangles with right sides together, being sure that the solid cotton sides are matching and the printed cotton sides are matching. Sew and turn so fabric is right side out. Top stitch 1/8" in from seam on the rectangle. Repeat along opposite end of zipper strip and 6 1/2" edge of rectangle.
  5. Top stitch handle in place on bag top using Template A placement guide.

Using zipper foot attachment, sew along 22" length. Turn fabric strips so that wrong sides are facing and the zipper is to one side of the fabric strips. Top stitch 1/8" in from seam along the fabric strips. Repeat with 3 1/2" x 22" strips.
  4. Pin one end of the zipper strip between the 5" edges of the 6 1/2" x 5" rectangles with right sides together, being sure that the solid cotton sides are matching and the printed cotton sides are matching. Sew and turn so fabric is right side out. Top stitch 1/8" in from seam on the rectangle. Repeat along opposite end of zipper strip and 5" edge of rectangle.
  5. Top stitch handle in place on bag top using Template A placement guide.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice product when finished but poor instructions I’ve sewn for 50 years and only could complete this because I made assumptions (e.g. seam allowances never listed, how to turn seams, how to transfer patterns). Poor directions. That said, I’m pleased with end result and good scrap buster
