- Pattern templates
- 1/2yd rainbow fabric
- 1/4yd each of different-colored fabric for each letter
- Sewing machine
- Pinking shears
- Scissors
- Sewing needle
- Thread
- Red drawstring
- 1 1/2yds cotton batting
- Air soluble marker
- Iron
- Safety pin (optional)
DIRECTIONS:
- Cut out each letter from the pattern templates.
- Cut 2 pieces of fabric and 2 pieces of cotton batting for each letter. Make sure to leave about an inch around the edge of each letter.
- Layer bottom fabric piece, two layers of cotton batting, top fabric piece. Trace the letter into the top fabric piece with an air soluble marker.
- Sew along the shape of the letter.
- Use the pinking shears to trim around the sewn edge of the letter.
- Repeat for each letter.
- Cut 2 pieces of rainbow fabric 13"x 15". Place them right sides together.
- Sew along 3 sides of the fabric, down one 15" side, across one 13" side, and back up the next 15" side.
- Fold down the unsewn side, 1/4" and iron flat. Then fold down again, 1" and iron flat again. Set aside.
- Cut two pieces of fabric 15"x 4" for handles.
- Fold each strap fabric in half, lengthwise, right sides together.
- Sew up the length of each handle, then turn right side out.
- Pin the first handle to the front of the bag, and the second to the back.
- Sew long the bottom of the folded over 1" section.
- Cut two small holes in the middle front of the 1" section to run the drawstring through.
- Thread the drawstring through the top of the bag and cinch tightly.
JOANN HACKS:
- To help thread the drawstring, use a large safety pin on one end of the string, and then thread it through the top of the bag.

Cute project, hard time printing
This is a super cute project but it would have been so much easier if the PDF was already the correct size. I couldn't enlarge mine without the letters going off the printing page.

Extra bit of work
Would have been better if the download was already at 4 inch size letters. Even using the scale tool, I could not get the letters on a letter size page. Ended up printing file as is (2 inch size) and enlarging to complete the project. Extra steps that I think could be avoided with some forethought

Download PDF doesn't produce 4" letter templates.
After I read the reviews, I followed instructions to click on Download PDF and even after trying that several times, I also get the 2" letters printed 4 to a page. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Suggestions, anyone? I would really love to make these letters. Thank you.

I am not sure how to print the pdf in 4" size letters. The pdf prints 2" size. Can you help me fiqure out how to print them in the 4" size?

letter template
Letter template can be found on this page where it says "Download PDF". However the PDF indicates that the letters should be 4" from top to bottom and the template when printed is just 2". So everything has to be enlarged. Not very helpful
