Yo (yarn over)
An increase that also creates a small decorative hole (eyelet) in the fabric, worked as follows:
Bring yarn to front, between the needles.
Take yarn to back, over the right hand needle. This creates the new st. You are now ready to proceed with the next st as instructed.
NOTES:
Afghan is worked in one piece in a simple stitch pattern.
A circular needle is used to accommodate the width of the piece. Work back and forth in rows on the circular needle, just as if working on straight needles.
AFGHAN:
Loosely cast on 59 sts.
Knit 7 rows.
Pattern Stitch
Row 1 (right side): Knit.
Rows 2, 4 and 6: Knit 5, purl to last 5 sts, knit 5.
Row 3: Knit 8, *yo, k2tog, knit 4; rep from * to last 9 sts, yo, k2tog, knit 7.
Row 5: Knit.
Row 7: Knit 8, *knit 3, yo, k2tog, knit 1; rep from * to last 9 sts, knit 9.
Row 8: Rep Row 2.
Repeat Rows 1-8 until piece measures about 52" from beginning end with a Row 2 as the last row you work.
Knit 6 rows.
Bind off loosely.
FINISHING:
Weave in yarn ends.
