DIRECTIONS:

HEADBOARD

  1. Cover the wood frame with the quilting batting.
  2. Lay the velvet on top and stretch it to the frame by stapling it on the backside starting in the middle of each side. Place one staple on each side in the middle of the wood on the back. Pull the fabric tight as you go around. Continue to go around the backside until you have completely stapled all the way around on the backside. Fold the corners inward to eliminate bulk as you are stapling the ends. On the front side, go in about 1" all the way around the headboard and draw a line with the white pencil. Using this line as your guideline when you hammer in the bronze tacks.
  3. Using the button covers, create velvet buttons.
  4. Decide where you want them and how many you want. Use your white pencil and ruler to make dot on the front side of the velvet where you want to place them.
  5. Attach the buttons with the embroidery thread and needle coming in from the backside and then tying them off on the backside as well.

JOANN HACKS:

  • For the headboard, don't pull the fabric too tight, because then it will pucker and pull from different sides. When you glue it to the backside, pull it evenly on all sides.
  • For the pillows, use clips instead of pins to hold fabric together before sewing to prevent marks in the fabric.
  • For the pillows, use a longer stitch length and contrasting thread for topstitching around pillow.
  • For the pillows, use contrasting fabrics for more creativity.
