SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • White round paper lantern(s)
  • 12-35 8.5"x 11" crepe paper sheets, depending on size of lantern
  • Hot glue gun
  • Acrylic paint
  • Paint brush
  • Scissors
  • Pencil or white pencil
  • Transparent cord (to hang)

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Choose petal and leaf shape from patterns provided.
  2. Trace petals and leaf shape onto crepe paper. Cut out with scissors.
  3. Paint edges of leaves and petals with acrylic paint.
  4. Stretch, crease, and curl petals and leaves into organic shapes.
  5. Assemble white paper lantern.
  6. Starting from bottom, hot glue petals to base of lantern. Apply petals in rings, working towards the top of lamp. Glue petals down on top and bottom edges only, allowing leaf to buckle and curl organically. Apply leaves last.
  7. Tie cord to lantern wire at top and hang.

JOANN HACKS:

  • Cut out leaf and petal shapes with the creases of the crepe paper running horizontally. This ensures that the leaves and petals will be easier to sculpt into shape.
