SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- Laptop/or computer
- Cricut® machine
- Cricut weeder tool
- Cricut standard grip mat 12"x 24"
- Blue and white acrylic paint
- Mod Podge Gloss in clear
- Assorted paintbrushes
- Wooden yard sign
- White permanent vinyl
- Cricut transfer tape
- Painters tape or vinyl
- Scissors
- X-Acto knife
- Cricut ruler
DIRECTIONS:
- Measure space on the arrows on the sign where you will be putting the vinyl words. You want to measure first before painting.
- Paint wooden sign with blue paint, let completely dry, and paint another coat of blue.
- While sign is drying, open design space.
- Insert text box and type:
- LOOK OUT WORLD!
- FORTUNE AWAITS
- BRIGHT FUTURE
- SUCCESS BOUND
- SMARTY PARTY
- Change font to Caslon Black
- Highlight all of your texts together and adjust size to 12"x 10".
- Put vinyl on your Cricut mat and cut with the Cricut machine.
- Weed the cut vinyl with your Cricut weeder tool, and apply transfer tape, cut each word phrase out. Set aside.
- Cut 1/8" strips of vinyl or painter’s tape to form the white border around each individual section on the sign.
- Using the 1/8" strips, tape off your desired area to paint
- The white border should be inset 1/8" from the edge of each section and it should be 1/8" thick.
- Use your ruler to measure.
- Use your scissors and X-Aacto knife on the 1/8" strips of vinyl while taping off your area that you want to paint.
- Once all sections are taped off, press firmly down on all vinyl to assure paint doesn’t get under.
- Paint Mod Podge over white border areas. Let dry.
- Paint white over indicated white border area.
- Peel up your taped off stencil vinyl strips while paint is still wet.
- Let completely dry.
- Apply white vinyl words to the painted wooden sign.
- Using a small paintbrush, touch up any areas to complete sign.
JOANN HACKS:
- Peel up vinyl while paint is still semi wet.
- Use a hard dryer to dry paint on sign quickly.
- Permanent vinyl works best for taping off white border.
- Taping off area for white boarder can be easily done using an X-Acto knife and scissors on your 1/8" strips of vinyl.
