- Paint the Cardstock by adding light brush strokes of coordinating colors to the colored Cardstock (ex: for orange card stock add painterly brushstrokes of oranges, yellows, pinks and even creams). Repeat this on a few sheets of Cardstock to get an array of color options for the background of the butterflies. If you need inspiration on choosing colors use photos of real butterflies as inspiration and also take into account where the final piece will be and choose colors to coordinate. _x000D_
- Once you have 4-5 sheets of Cardstock painted set them aside to dry. _x000D_
- While the paper is drying, go outside or in a well-ventilated area and spray paint the frame beige. This may take several coats. Remember to apply thin light coats rather than applying too much and causing drips. _x000D_
- Allow the frame to dry. _x000D_
- Set up the Cricut file in Design Space. If the painted background papers are not fully dry you can cut the detail pieces first. All the detail pieces will be cut from black Cardstock. Fit as many of the butterfly detail svg templates as you can on a sheet in the Cricut Design Space. If your sheet is 8 1/2"x 11" or 12"x 12" you will need to lay them out accordingly. You will need to make 15 completed butterflies but it's a good idea to cut a few extras in case you mess one up. Set the detailed butterfly pieces aside. _x000D_
- Load the painted papers onto the mat and cut out the background butterfly svg template. Place enough of the designs onto Cricut Design Space as will fit on the Cardstock. Its best to cut out more than you need to have more to choose from since you won't be able to see the finished look with the abstract painted design until after it's cut. You will need 15 total but extra is always better. _x000D_
- Once all the pieces are cut out, lay out the butterfly background pieces in a grid that's 3 across by 5 down. Move them around until you get the layout you like best. Once you have the layout decided use a glue stick to dab glue on the back of the detail piece and glue it on top of the background piece. _x000D_
- Once the background pieces are glued in place you can add details to the butterfly like dots, lines and shaded areas. Use the example as inspiration or use photos of real butterflies to help with the designs. Set aside to dry, keeping them in the same layout as you already chose. _x000D_
- While the paint is drying on the butterflies, take the back of the frame and apply a thin coat of spray adhesive. Do this outside or in a well-ventilated area. _x000D_
- Once the glue is tacky to the touch apply the linen fabric to the backer. Make sure to line it up straight and flip it over so it is face down on your work surface. Run a bead of hot glue along the top of the frame and pull the fabric to secure it. Make sure to pull evenly so the fabric doesn't pucker. It's best to start in a small section in the middle and work your way out. Once the top is glued in place move to the bottom. Pull the fabric taut and secure in place along the back of the backer piece with hot glue. Repeat on the left and right sides of the frame until the edges are secured down, holding the fabric tight without puckers. _x000D_
- Trim away any excess fabric with scissors. _x000D_
- Flip the backer over and lay out the butterflies onto the frame. Space them to be evenly aligned around the frame at 3 wide by 5 tall. Use a ruler to help with spacing if needed. _x000D_
- Once you have the butterflies in place add a dot of hot glue where each body of the butterfly is and glue them in place. Make sure to do them one at a time so the glue doesn't dry too quickly. _x000D_
- Remove any glue strings and make sure the glass is clean before assembling the frame again. _x000D_

- When gluing the detail piece onto the background piece of the butterfly it's best to lay the detail piece face down on a piece of scrap paper and dab the back with the glue stick rather than swiping it across. This will help keep an even layer across the back. _x000D_
