Underwhelming to say the least
Eh, it's alright. The Cricut roll holder is to hold smart materials for the Maker & Explorer 3 machines. If you consistently work with smart materials and are often making long (24"+) cuts, then the roll holder can help keep the material together before being pulled into the machine. At less than 24", it's really unnecessary, if you cut your material to length before feeding it into the machine or are using a mat more often than not, then you wouldn't have much use for this. I got mine on clearance as I would have never paid the sticker for this thing.
A couple things that bothered me, the tray doesn't seem to align with my Maker 3 as it should. It's meant to slide on the open front door, there are two "rails" on the inside face and lines on the roll holder to line it up, but it doesn't quite "slide" as it should. Also, why is this grey? The 3s came in one color (Maker in a light teal explorer in a light blue,) why not make it in those 2 colors? Just odd/minor annoyance. At the price point, I can think of a plethora of items that are more useful/necessary to crafting with these machines than the Cricut Roll Holder.

Life on easy street

Love this feature
I have owned an Exlpore Air 2 and a Maker. The Maker I had worked fine. The only reason I upgraded was to be able to make projects with unlimited length. I tested out the roll holder when I first used it and I like it! It will definitely make doing longer projects easier. For smaller ones I will probably use mats as I don’t want to waste vinyl.
