SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- Two skeins Knit and Crochet Essential yarn
- U.S. size E crochet hook (or size to meet gauge)
- 9" zipper
- 1/2 yd fabric (for lining)
- Paper
- Pencil
- Iron
DIRECTIONS:
Gauge: Rows 1-6 will create a circle 3" across.(Make 2).
Ch 2
Row 1: sc 8 times into first chain.
From here, work continuously, placing a st marker into first st of each new row.
Row 2: 2 sc in each st around. (16 sts)
Row 3: *sc, 2sc, repeat from * to end of row. (24 sts)
Row 4: *sc in next 2 sts, 2sc, repeat from * to end of row. (32 sts)
Row 4: *sc in next 2 sts, 2sc, repeat from * to end of row. (32 sts)
Row 5: *sc in next 3 sts, 2sc, repeat from * to end of row. (40 sts)
Row 6: *sc in next 4 sts, 2sc, repeat from * to end of row. (48 sts)
Row 7: *sc in next 5 sts, 2sc, repeat from * to end of row. (56 sts)
Row 8: *2 dc in next st, ch 1, skip 1 st, repeat from * 21 more times, dc in next st, leave last 11 sts unworked. Turn. (67 sts)
Row 9: Ch 3, *2 dc in next chsp, ch 1, skip next 2 sts, repeat from * to last chsp, 2dc in last chsp. Turn. (66 sts)
Row 10: Ch 3, *2 dc in next chsp, ch 1, skip next 2 sts, repeat from * to last chsp, dc in last chsp, ch 1, dc in top of ch 3 or previous row. Turn. (66 sts)
Row 11: Ch 3, *3 dc in next chsp, ch 1, skip next sts, 2 dc in next chsp, ch 1, skip next sts, repeat from * to last chsp, 3 dc in last chsp, dc in top of ch 3 of previous row. (75 sts)
Row 12: Ch 3, dc in same space as ch 2, ch 1, *3 dc in next chsp, ch 1, skip next sts, 2 dc in next chsp, ch 1, skip next sts, repeat from * to end of row, ch1, 2 dc in top of ch 3 of previous row. (75 sts)
Row 13: Ch 3, skip next sts, *3 dc in next chsp, ch 1, skip next sts, repeat from * to end of row, dc in top of ch 3 of previous row. (85 sts)
Row 14: Ch 1, sc in each st and chsp to end of row. Turn. (85 sts)
Rows 15-16: Ch 1, sc in each st to end of row. Turn. (85 sts).
Without turning, follow next top row instruction.
Top Row: Ch 1, sc in side of first st and next 2 rows, sc across next 6 rows, working 2 sc for each row, skip next 2 sts, sc in next 9 sts on sc circle, skip last 2 sts before working along the sides of the last 6 rows, work 2 sc for every row to last 3 rows, sc in side st of last 3 rows.
Tie off.
When pieces are finished, place them together with wrong sides facing. Stitch the pieces together along the bottom half circle edge. Turn right side out.
Attach the yarn to top of the bag, at the middle of one end. Sc in each st around the top of the bag for three rows. Don't tie off.
Making the Strap:
To make the strap, sc in the next two sts. Turn.
Strap rows: Ch 1, sc in the next 5 sts. Turn.
Repeat strap row until strap measures 46" long or desired length. Tie off with a long tail. Use tail to stitch end to opposite side of bag.
Trace the outer edge of the bag onto a piece of paper. Use this as a pattern for the bag lining. Cut 2 pieces of fabric for lining.
Place the zipper along the top of the first lining piece with wrong side of zipper facing right side of fabric. Stitch along the edge with 1/8" seams.
Repeat for the other side of the zipper with the other piece of lining fabric.
Iron the piece flat along the seams.
Place the right sides of the lining fabric together and stitch along the edges with 1/2" seams.
Place the lining inside the crochet bag. Hand stitch the zipper to the top of the bag.

Frustrating
I wish I had read the reviews before starting this project. I was pulling out my hair trying to make it work until I realized the problem was the pattern, not me.

This pattern has errors
I agree with the previous reviewer. There are certainly errors in the pattern, that if you follow them, will make some of the rows unbalanced. That's a shame, because the picture of the finished bag is really very attractive. I'm just going to do what's logical for the rows that I think are in error, and see what happens

poorly written pattern
This pattern seems to need a bit of a review from a tech editor and pattern tester. Some of the instructions did not make much sense, and parts of it had some typos for sure.
I tried multiple times to finish the first on side of this bag and was unsuccessful.
